Cylinder 7 misfire, head work vs new head kit
Hello everyone,
I have an issue where cylinder 7 misfires and all stabilitrak goes off. It goes off and on the entire time driving so not permanently. The dealership said the only issue they found with all their tests was it had good compression but bad running compression (Whatever that means). Said most likely it is a bad valve guide and they want to charge me 1800 for a bunch of gaskets and valve work I would assume. My thought was, instead of paying for this to get "Fixed" would it be better to just swap in new performance heads? |

Or just take the head off and replace the valve and a stock. Gasket back on and done

How complex is removing the heads? If it isn't something I need a shop for and can dfo it in my garage I can probably make it happen I guess

Running compression takes in account the valvetrain. Things like a lifter or bad valve spring can cause it to have bad running compression. Standard repair would be to recondition the heads, valve job, new lifters... inspect cam lobes.

If it's 1800 then yes it woukd be smarter to pull them both and either send them off to be R&R and ported or just swap them for a set already worked over. You could sell those for an easy 350 to 400 as is and be done with it.

Swap for CNC GMPP LS3. Sell your old heads after inspection/repair or as is.

Perfect thanks gentlemen! I figured there were better options out there. I will swap out the heads! I have a Comp Cam in the car now, with the new heads will the tune need to be adjusted? Guessing not needed but optimal
