Total newbie...not afraid to admit it

"The wise ask questions" - someone who knew what they were talking about.

I ran my 11' SS for the 1st time last weekend. First 5 runs were horrible. I was trying to drive it like my dad's 66' Stingray and powershift (i.e. WOT through the gears) but I noticed I couldn't grab 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. So then the 6th run I decided to try "Launch Control" and broke my right rear axle so embarressing! Can someone please tell me how to drive this thing...this is not my first manual but it is my 1st with over 400+hp. Run 2,3,4 had real bad wheel hop through 1st and 2nd. Do I just need to calm down and let it go in to gear?

1st time 1/4'er

Hunt

When one feels wheelhop one must release pressure on right pedal grasshopper...

You can`t drive through wheelhop, you have to get out of it. You will have problems w/ it having a manaul car unless you spend a lot on suspension upgrades and some sticky tires. Thats why I went w/ the automatic, no wheelhop w/ stock suspension 1.61 60 foot on the way to a 10.99@125.40.

........And God has Spoken!

LMAO!!!!! J/K

I heard a lot of M6 owners say that you have to ease out and ride the clutch a little (not to the point of frying it) ... because wheel hop is a M6 best friend on the track. I know I have an A6, but I driven manuals most of the time (until the 2nd knee surgery).

Sorry to hear that you snapped the axle, just gonna take a little practice.

I haven't gotten to the track yet with my new SS but probably will in the next few weeks. I am running the Nitto 555R and on the street on a hard launch I get just a tiny bit of hop when shifting into second with the tires aired down. Many SVT Cobra's had the same problem with their IRS, some would swear you had to replace nearly everything in your rear suspension other swore that nothing more than a set of soft sidewall slicks solved the problem.
