305 vs 315 tires

I’ve read tons and tons of threads on tires. In short as I understand not many different models I. The stock 285 and 305 configurations. So many are going to the 315?

Questions
What are the benefits going wider? Is 315 wider and taller?

What tires are more sticky than the Goodyear gen 2? I know it’s subjective. But I am looking for a street tire that will hook up. I don’t take it to the strip but I want sticky tires. Seems like the Goodyear’s aren’t as sticky as should be even if warmed up. Or maybe after 8k miles I should just get new Goodyear’s... not sure.

For those of you who use DR, which ones look closest to stock and that you can use as a daily driver?

Yes I know there are lots of post of some of
This stuff but I haven’t found all the information yet to make a decision on new tires so any help would be appreciated.

Currently I am running. 2014 zl1 with JRE 750 package (650 rwhp). I will be sticking to this package.

315 is a measurement of width only.

"Sticky" is a relative term. For the street, street or track?

Since you are in IA and first said street: I went w/ DSW06's and love 'em. G Force Comp's 2 are good as well. DR's are different altogether.

Wider is better for drag, not so good on track.

Good points. I’m looking for a tire I won’t lose too much cornering ability but at the same time gain traction as compared to now. Do not want an all season. Never drive in rain or cold weather.

Right now I can have it in second gear and spin at 30-40mph. 3rd fear I can spin in 70 degree weather. I won’t be tracking. But I will put on 3k miles a year mostly light driving. Few races with some friends a few times a month.

Just sucks having all this power and not being able to put it down.

We've recently had a few 70 degree days here, and I was able to "try out" my DWS06's finally. They stick much better than the g2's in everyday driving. I used to backpedal the g2's in 2nd gear, but the DWS06's stuck without issue- just a couple of small slips that I barely noticed while at WOT. I'm sure they are a lesser tire than the g2 on the road course, but that doesn't matter for me. The DWS06 is a better street tire.

If you're looking for a nice tire that can also corner well i'd look into the toyo proxes r888 tires, If you're looking to embarrass your friends a couple times and not spin at all i'd go with the m/t et street s/s. just my .02 though. I run the m/t et street r tires and couldn't be happier.

Do you run those mt every day? As your daily driver tire in summer?

I looked st he proxes. They say you can’t even store them below 15 degrees. Worried about letting them sit in my garage in sub zero weather over winter.

A good visualizer. Click around, it has other good info

a 315/35R20 will also be taller than a 305/35R20... all in the way you must calculate diameter

Benefits of a 315 over 305: Bragging rights.

In actual performance, I doubt the two would ever matter. You'd notice a MUCH MUCH bigger difference in the type of tire, compound of the tire, or brand of the tire than you ever would in width.

OP for your setup and power level, I would strongly recommend the Toyo R888R, not the older R888, and run them on all four corners or at least rears for now in either their 305 or 315. Expect an R888R to hook as good as a street Drag Radial but also be able to razor the corners. IMO, the best tire currently on the market for a high HP street car that doesn't need a drag slick.

If you go with a DR, then you will not be able to push your car in the corners, on the entrance/exit ramps of the highway and that sort of thing; DR's are too soft in the sidewall. Plus, depending on the brand/make of DR, over 130 MPH or so you'll notice a more uncomfortable sway, and if you're not used to it, then it can be disconcerting.

Other than the R888R, there are several other summer only options. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and the older Pilot Super Sport are good tires, but will not provide as much grip as an R888R BUT you will get a lot more life out of them. Any of the Continental or BF Goodrich ALL SEASON tires are going to pale in comparison to a high performance summer only tire but the trade off is you get to drive them in any weather, cold or hot, wet or dry. Just don't expect them to hook or corner carve as good as a summer performance tire.

Another option would be two sets of wheels- sticky tires for the summer months and all-seasons for the winter. I was going to do that, but now that I've had a couple months with them, I think the conti's will be fine for my purposes all year long. I don't hook well in first, but it's fine after that.

yup, i run the et street r every day as i dd my car in the summer months. last year i put 8k miles on them. Favorite tire by far but dont get caught in the rain if you end up going my route with the et street r.

I’ve read about these some more. Company is stating track only? Are they ok for daily driving? Will I get much more stick compared to the Goodyear’s ?

Ideal temp is 160-220F. How many days in IA will you have to accommodate that? And with the softer compound, they will wear much faster than street tires. To the point you could buy another set of wheels and tires for those oh so many cool days in IA.

Track, drag and street tires have different compounds and tread for a reason. When you regularly use them outside those parameters, the rubber will readily so show.
