Help Black Car and Local Car Wash -----------------------
I'm about to get a new 2014 SS and was looking at a nice black one :-) my son is a big fan of the black and I like it a lot. I keep my car very clean.
I have a Grabber Orange mustang now and have been using the car wash 2 days a week for the past 3 years and the car looks great. Will it be ok on a black car if I keep it well waxed? Maybe have it puffed each 6 to 9 months? I have a great plan here it's $29.99 a month for unlimited car washes. Love you hear what you guys think? |

I wouldn't go near a car wash especially if you're getting a black car. Just think about all that dirt that gets stuck on the brushes from other cars. That dirt eventually ends up on your car creating swirl marks everywhere. The best way is to wash the car yourself using the two bucket method in which will reduce swirl marks significantly. Trust me I had a black SS that I recently traded and it drove me crazy lol. Good luck man.

No. Do not use a car wash on a black vehicle if you actually care about the paint. If not, have at it but be warned, swirls will be everywhere.

I say go for it. If you think the Mustang paint looks great then you'll think the Camaro paint looks great too.

Spend the money in good detailing equipment and call it an investment for when you sell your car later on.

Oh hell no.
Hand wash your car with good car wash, there's excellent vendors here, let the microfiber sponge or microfiber towel do the work, do not scrub. Wash in straight lines, fore to aft, no circles, and rinse your sponge/towel. Wash the wheels first. Use a separate sponge/towel for the wheels. Buy five or six microfiber drying towels.

Do your self a favor and don't get a black one. Get silver or gray maybe dark blue looks like black at night but somewhat forgiving. swirls are harder to see on those colors and pay a professional to correct them every few years.

The car-wash is a swirl machine.

In the end, its your car and certainly do as you see fit... but there is no faster way to swirl up a paintjob than a tunnel wash.

Sounds like silver or white is up your alley. Avoid black if you want it to keep looking nice and you will be taking it to the car wash.
Back when I was in high school I had a beautiful Dark Blue 1988 Chevy half ton. I had it repainted. One winter I decided to run it through a scratch wash. MISTAKE! I learned my lesson when spring came along and I had to polish the darn thing.

Like others have said, you will get swirls over time from an automatic car wash. I have a Black Ford Explorer that I clean often with an automatic wash (do not baby it like my Camaro & Dodge).
But every Spring I break out my Flex XC3401 Dual Action buffer, hit it with some uber compound / swirl remover, then polish before waxing and It looks as good as new (paint correction). |

I recently bought my wife a black, 2014 Challenger, black is a tough color to keep looking good.
If you want to keep it looking really good, it will be a big commitment. That's all there is to it.
