Weight Reduction

Going to test/tune tomorrow, so decided to do some weight reduction.

Removed passenger seat, back seat, floormats, and battery cover.
Emptied everything out of the glove box, and underneath armrest.

Figure I've removed around 100 lbs., the passenger seat alone weighed 60 lbs.

Any other quick things I can do to make my pig lighter?

I daily drive it, so wont remove the bars, can't run open headers on the drive to the strip, it's illegal, but will go ahead with the wiper reservoir, looks really easy, thanks!

if you are willing to spend money get some light wheels. i would just bump the power up and give up the diet.....i have just come to the realization that you never have too much power just not enough traction.

Do both. Weight reduction AND the power

It's on 18" MT ET Street R's, and 17" MH skinnies. If the prep is decent (usually is at Shadyside) traction is not an issue.

It has Cold Air, LT's, BW TB, UDP, 3200 Circle D, Zex Nitrous 125 shot, and a 3.91.

The weak link in these cars is the rear end, so I've put in an Eaton True Trac, bushings, toe links/trailing arms, DSS 1/2 shafts.

If your just staying stock the 20" Nitto 555R's will hook fine, but if your adding power, beef up the rear end, and run MT ET street R, you'll have no problem hooking with them. My car has done a 1.44 60'.

The weight reduction turned out to be really beneficial, ran a PB of 7.1 today, besting my prior by .17...…..but the real fun was against a car I had never beat......we ran nearly identical times, but I treed him!

If you are drag racing your 5th gen, I'd highly recommend removing the passenger and rear seat, you only need a T50, 18mm, and 15mm. Total of 6 bolts and 1 nut to remove. I've included a video of the process.

Congrats! Next try to get a set of front aerospace components front brakes. That will shave 52lbs, which will really help w that weight transfer!

Those look nice, but since I daily the car, I don't want to lose the stopping power of the factory Brembo's.

For additional weight savings, I'm looking into a lightweight seat for the driver's side, since pulling the factory seats out is easy. Should be easy to cut 40 lbs.

Aerospace makes a street version that'll brake just as good as those Brembos, another thing that worked for me was a carbon fiber drive shaft and a 3lb antigravity battery. Rotational mass removed does wonders.

I am going to look for a lightweight seat, and will be doing the Aerospace Street kit. Question is: front or rear first??

Front give most weight reduction.
Let me know if you find a deal for a seat.
Jegs has 13 lb. seats for less than $100, but no brackets that fit our cars without modification.
I found one vendor with direct fit, but $975 per seat is too much.

Good info on the brakes.
I was planning a driveshaft anyway as my stocker is probably on borrowed time doing 1.4X 60'.
A friend of mine got a battery from Jegs for around $170 that is TINY......looks almost like a motorcycle battery, saved 40 lbs of weight.
