Question Dealership damaged wheel, what to do?

Hi,
I have a 2011 2LT RS V6 CGM. I had a slow leak in my front tire so I took it to the dealership. I had a nail in my tire. Well, they gashed the rim in the process of repairing the tire. They have been nice about the whole thing. This was my very first trip to the dealership for anything. I really did not want to go, but, kinda had to because there wasn't going to be any air in my tire. I have the tire package on my car. Anyway, they sent the rim away to be repaired. It took over a week. I picked my Camaro up today. I am not entirely happy with the repair. I can't imagine a rim repair place doing a better job on a rim repair, but it has dimples in the surface now. The rim has, like, dimples in the surface. My service writer told me to call her if I wasn't happy with it. I will be calling her tomorrow. I would like to know what ya'll -- sorry for the ya'll -- think. This forum is amazing. I've had my Camaro four months. This is my second Camaro -- first one 83' Charcoal Grey V8. I don't believe these dimples in the rim will show up in a photograph to post on here. Would you request a new rim? The dealership wanted to try the repair first. This is my first post. Thank you.

Had same result with my rim. I inadvertenly scraped rim against curb. Took it to local wheel repair specialty shop and they repaired it, but wound up with same "dimples" on surface - plus wheel lost its luster. Refused to pay for work and they accepted. Still have wheel on vehicle and contemplating wheter to replace it, but leaning to purchasing a set of black accent Camaro wheels

Sounds like they are willing to replace it. Not sure what your asking about.

Sorry to hear that they didn't do good work. You know, The Chevy Dealer is not the place I would take 20" wheels for service. I know they sold you the road hazard package, but it is hit and miss whether they have the newer tire machines or people who have experience working with these wheels/tires, as it is difficult to mount/dismount with some of the older machines or if you're inexperienced. I'd make them replace it or if they wont, find someone else's take off wheels on Craigslist to buy another one at a deal.

I take it you have the midnight silver wheels if so all they did was send it out to a wheel repair shop that sanded the damaged part depending on how large the samage area was youy might have a few flat spots on the lip from the repair (this is caused by not fixing correctly) then they went ahead and re-sprayed the wheel to try and match it.

I would request a new wheel and nothing less than that.

Sean

I would make them get you a new rim if it really bothers you.

ON-EMPTY, seems like since you have the tire package, going to the dealership was the right choice, and they ATTEMPTED to make it right. Did you tell them that you were not happy with the repair? if not.....you should be back at the dealership talking to them and asking them to replace the wheel....seeing as how thye addmittedly messed it up, and you shouldn't have to have something thats not PERFECT. Play Nice with them, start be going to the Service manager, if that doesn't work, don't leave, jsut start going up the chain till you either get the answer to need, or your talking to the owner of the dealership. IF they are a stand-up dealership, they will do the right thing and replace your wheel.

OH and BTW....Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

If they damaged it and you are not happy with the repair ask for a new one, I did and I got mine the same day. Mine was damaged from their balancer, they admitted guilt and replaced with a brand new one right there.

Just have them buy one off this board, or give you the money to do so.

You'd be surprised what a rim repair place can do:

Before:

After:

If you're not completely happy with the repair, have them make it right!
