How about some answers from GM Peeps? GRRRRRR
Hi...
The other day I said GM was COOL and had good CSR. The people are still nice, but the CSR is well... read on. A couple of days ago I called GM and gave them my VIN number. I was told the car was built on Friday April 3rd. YAY!! Today they called me back and told me that the car was NOT built at all, and they had no idea when it would be built, or when I could possibly expect delivery. I asked why I was told that the car was already built? "No idea", she said, and that no build or completion date for this order appears on her screen. So GM people, whats the deal? I'm not mad, just frustrated. Of course building cars and managing thousands of workers and millions of customers is hard work, but to me it seems that order tracking should be one of the easier things to do. Is it built? Still in pieces? In shipping? This kind of thing should at least be online so that we don't have to bother the CSR's all the time.. And why would I get 2 completely different answers? (And yes, the correct VIN was provided to them. They confirmed it by telling me who I was, my home address, etc etc). AARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH |

You all have to stop with the GM customer service they don't know anything you are supposed to find out this info from you dealer. No other car maker has a person you can call to track an order either thats what dealers are for. I understand if your dealer does not help you some people are just lazy but you can't expect someone who sits behind a computer and has no idea even what the process is to give you a straight answer. Most of those reps will say anything to avoid saying they don't know.

Hi -
Of course the dealer is not GM, but the car is a GM and since GM is responsibe for fullfilling the order it would make sense to me that GM should know where the order is. And besides, the dealers don't have the time to look up orders. The salesman needs to do his job which is to SELL. He has already sold me so in reality, he doesn't need to talk to me anymore. He needs to sell his next client, something I fully understand. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR |

This is another reason why you can't buy cars frm manufacturers. They don't do the whole "customer service" thing. They sell their vehicles directly to dealers who don't call them with these types of issues.
Anyhow 2muchmark, your salesperson on the other hand does have enough down time in the day to pull up your order and check the status. It only takes like 45 seconds to do. It's great that you respect him as a person and understand that he should be selling cars rather than worrying about things he has no control over, but you are still a customer and he sould be tending to your needs. As others have said, if you have a VIN, it's built. The GM reps are limited in what they are supposed to tell you. They are actually supposed to direct you back to your dealer for information regarding specific vehicle information.

Your sales guy should be at your beck and call at least until you accept delivery of the car and drive off into the sunset. I would not hesitate to call him/her to check the status of my order and if I was the sales guy, it would embarrass the heck out of me if my customer was forced to call GM directly because they could not get the info through me.

But in the sales guy's defense, most customers treat everything you say as bad news unless you mention free stuff of some sort or something along those lines. You cringe at making most calls to customers. Most are not as cool as the OP. |

They weren't blowing me off either - they both took time to look it up, hum'ed and haw'ed about it, and got back to me later. YES! Your car is built! NO! Your car has not been started yet! (Have a nice day!) grr grr grrr.. |
