Z/28 Transmission fluid quantity

I am going to change out the transmission fluid in the Z/28 The owners manual specifies 4.5 qts for the quantity. I drained it and only 3.8 qts came out the rear drain plug.

The car is level and the fill plug was removed.

Am I missing something?

There is residual, that wont come out. I experienced the same thing. I then employed the ole aircraft maintenance technique of "fill to spill". All good after that.

When you refill, you fill till it seeps from fill plug, that's how you know it's full. So make sure it's level or at least higher on fill plug side of trans

Thank you for the quick and helpful replies.

That is what I was hoping the answer would be. It took the same amount +- a few ounces to overflow from the fill port.
