Tail lights
Hello everyone , need some help .
So when the car was imported by ship my car, they fitted a module in the back and changed all the wiring to the rear lights ( to make them UK road legal) I am getting some new rear light units and they won't work properly as these changes have been made. I am wondering if anyone would know how I can undo all the has been done and go back to the USA style lights ? |

Are you reverting to USA spec (illegal in UK) all red rears?
If you want four tail lights with legal amber indicators ask me how I did mine, or are you after the original setup with red flashing indicators? Should be easy to restore the original wiring after removing the control box. You will probably have a snipped wire at the rear to disable either inner or outer tail lights. Guess you currently have the rear inners as tail and brake, and outers as turn signals only? Some of the aftermarket replacement LED units have a very poor reputation and fail very often. Pete1le rewired his back from Shipmycar special to USA spec I have four tails with inners brake and outers amber indicators with switchback LED's Are you on Facebook, we have a chat group on there, more now use that than this forum? Add me on there and I'll add you to the group if you like? John D Myers Last edited by johndm; 06-28-2018 at 08:36 AM. |

Raheem,
ShipMyCar tail lights take a brake feed from the 3rd brake light in the window and through the relay module to the stock bulb. So the cut the wiring to the stock bulb to allow the new connection. They then add resistors onto exposed wire so it tells the canbus that the bulb is still working even though it's not there anymore. They take an indicator feed from the front of the car and also push that through a relay onwards to a new amber bright LED. Reason behind all this is because the stock red bulbs are single bulbs. You wouldn't want the amber indicator lighting up when you brake, and you wouldn't want the brake coming on when you indicate. Hope this helps you understand the changes to the wiring.

I kept my control box [made in Finland].
Replaced with OEM Red lenses. Fitted powerful Orange LED stalks. No problems. |
