The RS was a base model (230 and 250ci I6) The SS was the performance model (327, 350, and 396) The Z28 was the Trans/Am race inspired version. (It had a 302 and a good suspension) It was built to get it in the T/A race. It was the middle. and then there were the combinations RS/Z28 was an RS with a Z28 engine and suspension RS/SS was an RS with a 327 there was no SS/Z28 because the SS engine was too powerful for the Z28 suspension. So, adding Z28 components to a SS was a downgrade, adding SS components to a Z28 defeated the purpose of a Z28. All are great cars, I've owned at least one of each. I am looking forward to owning one of these new ones. |
