Evap vent solenoid not covered?
Frustrated beyond belief. I have a 2010 1LT. Had it in and out for CEL and exhaust issues. All were covered under bumper to bumper.
My car now has 34k and bumper to bumper expired in May. Went in today for CEL and message "tighten gas cap". Charged me $100 for the diagnostic and said another $430 to replace evap vent solenoid. This is the newest car I have ever owned and it's been nothing but problems! I didn't have them fix it yet...still deciding what to do. |

That should be covered under the emissions warranty, they are trying to screw you.
Did you try the gas cap before taking it in? Sometimes afterwards it takes several engine cycles before the CEL light will go off.

Yes the gas cap is tight. Filled up once and double checked.

Sorry I was wrong it was not covered, only major emmissions systems are covered for longer than your bumper to bumper warranty. It used to be the entire system was covered but now it's not. Sorry for the misinformation.

I've got the same thing going on... 2010 with 57k miles... My dealer said $900 or so for the repair so $430 sounds good to me!
This seems like a common issue - something that kind of bugs me a bit to be honest. That evap solenoid is failing prematurely, should be a TSB by now I would think. I'm working on getting mine fixed, Customer Service is helping me out. I'll let you know how mine turns out. Hopefully everything goes well, for both of us.

There are two, vent valve (on pass rear valve cover) easy fix.
Purge valve (In tank PITA). If yours is the valve on the engine just buy one and replace it.

I haven't heard of anyone having any luck replacing the one under the hood. More likely, it's the one in the tank. That's the one that is failing on everyone, depending on what CEL code you're getting.
Vent solenoid is in tank, purge solenoid is on the valve cover. Stupid emissions equipment.

I would try a new gas cap first...it it doesn't vent correctly you will get the error light.
My evap failed prematurely and was replaced at about 10,000 miles. |

ya I've had the evap go out on me twice, once right when I picket it up. The second time they tried to say it wasn't covered because I had tuned my engine, and foreign software on the computer could of done all kinds of unknown things to electronic components....joke was on them cause I hadn't tuned it the second time it went out, they got it confused with another car in the shop....but the fact that they tried to get out of fixing the thing on such a lame excuse tells you how they treat you after the sale......
But as to cost, it apparently is right over the gas tank, so they have to lower that to get to it....great design...but I figure its another of the little things they don't seem to have done as much QC as they might have. As far as a TSB...why would Chevy do anything after the sale to help their customers unless its required by the courts or the government? They try to get out of doing any of that as much as they can get away with already |

I just took a look at the P&P manual and it shows those parts as having a 2/24 federal emissions warranty. The ones marked with * shows as stated.

The canister is the most common failure and you can do it yourself for about $50. It's located behind the passenger side quarter panel near the gas tank. I replaced one on another of our GM vehicles in about 5 mins. Finding it takes more time than actually replacing it. The Evap solenoid very rarely goes bad and it's located in the gas tank. If it's the solenoid, take it somewhere and pay them to do it as you have to remove the tank to get to it and in the Camaro I think also requires dropping the whole rear end in order to have enough room to get the tank out. |
