I have a bad knocking noise from my passeneger rear end. I suspect a half shaft blew at the auto X. driving home on it right now.

The glue let go and the carbon tube spun on the aluminum joint at the differential end. This was the second one that had done this (another customer had the same issue) so Frank was explaining that he had a hunch he knew what was going on with the glue. He'd already talked with 3M who makes the glue and came up with a different process for curing it during assembly. He's going to send an aluminum shaft to me for a temporary replacement while getting the cf situation solved. Since I've already had the cf one this will be an opportunity to see how much actual difference it makes between that and an aluminum one. If I can't tell any real difference (although I suspect I will because the aluminum one should transfer more noise) I might just keep it... but we'll see.
This is seriously bad news!! I am still waiting on mine to show after 2 months (was supposed to be 2 weeks!). Very disappointed in hearing this. This was supposed to have been sorted out long ago according to Frank. Now it's back to a "hunch"... Wow, just wow...

This hurts. I didnt get a picture while it was all stuck inside, I went in panic mode. No one hurt, no mechanical damage, still drivable. I get a new front in a couple days. thought about getting the ZL1 front or something different. Think I will stay with original for now.

Well he said he's getting an oven that can cook these things at 400 degrees for 6 hours and that, according to 3M, will make these things solid. He thinks that when he was putting in the aluminum yoke on the trans end of the tube, it was causing the glue on the diff end to squeeze it's way out of the joint towards the inside of the tube. He's going to cut mine in half when he gets it back to see what happened to the glue. Apparently this particular glue takes a week to cure up if you just let it air dry.

It is not an OEM pulley, running 14 lbs. of boost on a 14 rib belt. Well, I should have been.

Doc, I talked to "the other" guy who did the same thing with his CF driveshaft. It was Conrad, with the Hankook/Blu808 Drift car.

They managed to cobble it together and keep racing, but later got it replaced. Theirs is holding fine now.

Nice looking pieces, thats for sure!

WOw, I need to check mine to make sure that the locktite is still holding after four months. Let us know what happens and how you resolve this issue.

I was the one that wiped out my diff on a good launch Saturday morning.
I got the pumpkin from Jannetty Racing with 3.73 Richmond gears, billet caps and their clutch pack in the limited slip. I originally thought I broke the driveshaft since the driveshaft should have been the weak link. Never expected to break the 3.73 Richmond gears.
It's funny how people couldn't believe that I was still smiling and laughing after breaking. But if you can't handle breaking parts then you shouldn't ever put your car on the track. Every good pass down the track is just one pass closer to something breaking. It's just part of racing!!

Thanks to Bondurant for bringing over some dollies to get me off the track and to Les from CO for trailering me home. He just got to get a little more seat time in his car by driving it instead of putting it in the trailer.
I got it unloaded this afternoon and will pull the pumpkin in the next few days and I'll post some picks of the damage soon. Not too happy with Richmond gears, will be putting Lingenfelter 3.90's back in it.

Did anyone get any video of me breaking or of my previous passes?? If so
let me know, I'd love to see it. My car number was #209.

Amen, I cooked off the two turbo's for an as yet unknown reason... and I wasn't even on the track, but I didn't let it ruin my weekend or those around me... Life goes on... the more HP, the more parts break, nature of the beast....

I'm glad I finally got to meet you as your car is one of those I followed from right after I joined this site, and I always thought that's something like I wanted... I'll see you next year, hopefully to visit a little more than this year...

The big dogs break parts, so the pups on the sidelines can be entertained and have some good stories to tell!!!!
