HP sells cars, Torque wins races. shifting at the optimal point on the power curve is key, which is why the optimized auto beats the manual. driving the manual, the driver more than likely had to go easy on the launch to keep from spinning the tires and getting too much wheel hop.

Reaction time in this case is the time between when your mind says it's time to shift and you actually take action...

I second that...................there's such a big discrepancy between all the car mags -----

6-speed all the way!!!!!!!!
"6-speed" is not such a great way to name the manual transmission, considering that the automatic is a 6 speed too.

I'm getting the manual. For crying out loud even the magazines can't agree on a 0-60 time and 1/4 mile times for the same cars.

Here's a tip...Get the car YOU want! Life is too short to worry about what the other guy thinks.
i seriously doubt that anyone here would buy a car based on "what the other guy thinks"

If the Auto is that much faster, than that is the argument to be made. not that someone else thinks its cool, who cares? this isnt high school.

get what you want. but if im in a Manual, i dont want to get smoked by some bum in the same car, w/ an auto tranny.

so if you where to learn the points on the manual.... you could reproduce the results of the auto?

yes and no. there are too many variables. main two being the gear ratios (tranny and rear) and the driver.

no human can shift as fast as an auto can. by the time you've thought about pushing the clutch in, the auto has already shifted

Congo, my point is... Guys are making a decision about which transmission to buy based on a spec sheet. "well the spec sheet says its .2 seconds faster so...." I have heard people wanting a manual say they are getting the auto because the spec sheet says its faster. If all you are looking for is a faster car then I don't think the Camaro is what will make you happy. I'm just saying, it won't matter what the guy next to me has, it is going to boil down to who gets the jump on the light and the driver if you are racing. But for the other 99.4% of the time drive what you prefer. Some guys deal with traffic and don't want the manual. For me it will never matter, I'll get the manual. To me that is driving, the auto is just steering.
