Mis-matched paint?

I saw this camera-phone pic posted on another forum and thought I would share here. If this is a respost, I apologize.

This pic was taken by an employee at a Chevy dealer. He apologized for the crappy picture, but said that what you see is NOT an illusion. The front bumper cover does not match the rest of the car.

I've seen this same issue on several cars, and I had the same issue with my 2006 GTO. The most recent example before this one was a ZR1 Corvette in blue where the hood and fenders did not match. Is this anything to be concerned about or is it the norm?

Maybe I'm just picky, but I don't really care where in the process the issue occurs, it's inexcusable that someone would expect you to pay $35K for a car that is screwed up right from the get-go.

Ummm, I agree 100%. Gm is selling the car, so GM is ultimately responsible. If ours looks like that when we go to pick it up, they will repaint that or we won't take it.

That mismatch looks rather pronounced. I have noticed it on other cars too. I really don't know what to say, except I believe it's a result of the base color of the bumper cover. It wouldn't be acceptible to me, and I would think not to GM either.

thats where the car goes from a steel hood to a plastic bumper. most likely the difference you see in color has to do the different material the paint is applied to. at least thats the only thing i can think of. my guess is in person you will never be able to tell a difference but the camera automatically tries to make a difference between colors and so you end up with the above picture.

LOS yes, in this picture that is what you see.

Does anyone know if the car has the 3M coating? that could cause the color change...

But also maybe the particular bumber was sun bleached.

This is not a system wide issue.

There were 30 IOM cars in TX and none look like this.

I would like to see the same view with different lighting...

we already know that this color is very different in different lighting.

try and snap one at the same angle without the flash.

... its odd that this pic comes from someone who makes fun of the camaro in his avatar and drives a mustang.

I think this is common on GM cars. My Firebird had the same issue, and I've seen it on some older camaro's. Seems to get more pronounced as the car gets older, depending on the color. That said, it would not stop me from buying a new camaro
