Dealer Protective Coating.

So what exactly is this interior/exterior protective coating service my dealer talked me into. I take it the interior part is just anti stain stuff. But what exactly is the exterior part. My appointment is Tuesday at 9 and they said it would take about 4 hours.

The exterior protectant is just a $7 bottle of poor quality wax. You can do better yourself with just what you can buy at Wal-Mart.

The interior protectant is pure crap and there is no way I would let someone put it on my seats. I've seen seats that had it done and there will be noticeable changes to the seats also you can not clean them like you would if you didn't get the protectant.

I would call the salesman first thing when they open Monday and tell him you've changed your mind and ask for a refund on it.

no one else have it done. Only 2 responses and both negative. Not that I don't believe those 2 but I like as many opinions as possible. Is it really that worthless. Thanks.

I was going to have something like this done on my G6 when I got it. I got my car and came back the next day to the service dept. and asked about the protectant. The guy looked it up on the computer and showed me the cost of the bottles and how much it was to put them on (much much cheaper than what the salesman was trying to get for it). He told me I was better of getting some stuff from autozone that would be better.

When you get your car the salespeople will always try to tac on things to rack up the cost. You're better off just using what the other members on this site post up to protect your interior/exterior.

If you don't mind doing it yourself, you'll most likely save a fair amount of money, and do a better job, if you do it yourself. There are alot of good products available which will do a GREAT job protecting your car.

I had it done to my Camaro. It may not be the best product. They used Siminoz on mine. It's the 5 year warranty they put on it from any damage inside and out. I also did it to my Suburban and their warranty is great. The carpet got a really bad stain on it and had to be replaced. They paid the complete bill. So that one paid for itself. I agree I probably won't use the stuff on the Camaro, but it's good insurance when it comes to repairing damaged paint from what ever. Just my .02cents worth

Had it done on mine for the same reason. Not for the quality of the product. If anything happens to it, they repair or replace.

It was the siminozing,7 year warranty, ive read ,in 1 hour, bird poop, can damage the paint, they will repair it if it were to happen, and even rent a car for you ,while your car is being repainted.

ur not paying for a product, your paying into a pool to repair paint. Like an insurance plan.

thanks for all you input. But I got one more question. I'm getting the vinylgraphix bumblebe strioes put on tomarrow as well. My question is should I get the stripes on before the dealer coating goes on or afterward. No dealer is not doing the stripes. Basically will this coating make the stripes not stick as well. Thanks.

I don't know for sure but I've always been told not to wax, polish or apply protectant to any body panel that is about to have vinyl decals applied. This is not because of adhesion problems but because when they clean and prep the panel of the decals it will remove any wax, polish or protectant that was just applied.
