TR6060 Tailshaft Support Bearing

I've seen a lot of information all over the place about how M6 SS Camaros don't have a support bearing in the tail housing of the TR6060 and installing one is a mod that trans shops do during their build to beef up the TR6060. I however can't seem to find anyone who sells just the bearing and it's retaining clip. I called Rockland and they were nice enough but had no clue what I was talking about.

I know RPM and another shop were selling the output shaft with the bearing but based on the pics below, I don't think I need to disassemble the entire trans and install a new output shaft. I'm just replacing the clutch and figure I could pop it in while I had the trans out.

I'm looking for some insight on what specific bearing and retainer people refer to as well as where it can be obtained if any body can help with that.

The pics below are exploded views of what is supposed to be a 09 CTS-V TR6060 and a 2010 SS TR6060; however, the SS pic does not look like mine (mine looks like the CTS-V pic) and I think it's for a G8 or something.

Looking at the CTS-V pic below I'm thinking we have to be talking about either parts 49 & 50 or 2 & 3.

This is supposed to be for an SS Camaro

George over at Rockland Standard Gear spoke with Caren in their Sales department to let her know what to order. They said the bearing, a spacer, a snap ring, and a seal are needed.

Don't ask what it costs because I forgot to ask myself. When I go to put it in, I'll post some pics of what is required. I should have the parts next week, which means I will be putting it together around the 17th.

I got the parts and put them except for the rear seal and yoke because I want to talk to one of Rockland Gear's technical guys before call it done.

This could be done in the car, but I had the trans out to install a clutch and wanted to do some upgrades while it was out.

I'm not sure if the part numbers are Rockland or Tremec, but this is what I got from Rockland for the tail housing bearing.

TCBA2117M Bearing , TR6060 Modified BRG for Camaro stock M/S
TCMS2146 Snapring, TR6060 Extension housing bearing Camaro
TUSJ2042 Seal Rear (T56/TR6060)

The bearing was just over $70, snapring $3, seal a shade over $10, $5 for the special order (they normally don't sell these OTC).

Here are the instructions that came with the bearing:

Here is what comes in the bearing package [there is no groove for the snapring (step 1) and the spacer (step2) slips right over output shaft with about 1/32 inch of play]:

A 32mm nut holds the yoke on and the yoke comes off easy with a three jaw puller. Once you take the seal off, sure enough, no bearing. Be careful removing the seal. I thought I was being pretty ginger with it and still managed to nick the aluminum which I had to remove the burrs from before installing the actual bearing in the tail housing.

First is the snapring from the bearing package. You can see the opening of the new snap ring at about the 10 o'clock position. It seats against the last snap ring on the output shaft but has no groove to drop into. Then you just slide the spacer that came with the bearing right over that.

Then you put the inner race of the bearing onto the output shaft. I did not heat it, but I did use a rubber mallet and piece of PVC to tap it into place. I gave it a couple decent whacks to ensure it was seated.

I put the bearing itself in the freezer for a few hours prior to installing it and tapped it in the same way I did the race, but use a slightly larger piece of PVC. I had to hit it a little harder than the race. When you're putting it in, it's pretty obvious it has to be completely seated or you wont be able to get the last snap ring in.

Then you put the last snap ring in followed by the seal and the yoke. Getting these snap rings in without the proper pliers was the hardest part. I used regular snap ring plier and a screw driver with a bit of patience. If you have the right tool it will be that much easier.

I would not bother with it until you are pushing enough HP to be concerned about your clutch. The trans in stock form is plenty stout for the stock motor. I did it because I was taking the trans out to replace the clutch. However, it is fairly simple and as I said could likely be accomplished with the trans in.

I will also say based on the condition of my take out clutch and gears, I really should have beat on it more. The gears looked perfect and the clutch had lots of meat left.

I've already swapped my clutch but I don't know the part numbers I need for everything to do the bearing upgrade.

Just talked to Rockland and they confirmed it goes together exactly as the instructions said. I'm going to put it back in now and put the rest of the car back together.

2010_Camaro if you are looking for the part numbers they are post #9
