Battery Tender

What brand battery tender do you guys use? I live in Southern Indiana so it does get pretty cold here and I'm thinking I should pick one up for the winter months.

Over the years I have owned several different battery tenders, the one I now stick with is the GOCO Genius G7200.

Take a moment and research them and you will see how useful they are, especially with the many useful attachments they offer.

I first had a G1100 that I paid something like $45.00 for, worked great but I felt it was not powerful enough for my needs. I then moved up to the G7200 battery tender that puts out up to 7.2A if needed. I have one that is mounted onto the wall of my garage. All my vehicles have an attachment where I can pull into the garage and plug them in if need be, even have an attachment on the John Deere diesel lawn more and the John Deere 825i Gator.

I also have a super nice NOCO GB70 heavy duty booster that I take on trips with me, small but super powerful, very useful. This portable booster puts out 2,000 amps for jump starting, strong flashlight for emergency roadside use and also recharges USB devices. If I remember correctly you can get 30-40 boosts out of one charge.

NOCO makes many attachments for their products that come in handy. For the quality I believe the price is good.

I use a Battery Tender JR I got on sale and a cheap Black and Decker. As reviews claim, the B & D won't recognize a dead battery so your screwed there. Unless you get the battery up to some charge with something else like the B T jr first.
I have an old Schumacher simple non-digital charger for real charging but sometimes it's easier to just leave the small powersupply sized Jr on the vehicle for several days as that's how long it takes to charge up a dead battery with these. Oh they get hot trying to charge a dead battery so I unplug them sometimes.
I'd suggest something larger if you need to charge dead batteries but something 1.0 amp or less is fine for maintenance. $15 for something that works for the B & D was good for me.
Others can chime in for what they like at the $xxx price points. For that much it should send you updates via wifi to your smart phone. And make you a sammich.

One important thing if you mix brands or buy extra cables to leave on various vehicles double check the polarity ! Some of these have the exposed pin, male female, reversed with + -. They still plug in but would be a bad thing trying to charge backwards if they don't just redlight and default to no charge.
Edit: BTW some are advertised in milliamps; 800milliamps is 800/1000amps, or 0.8amps. Less than 1amp which is more than enough for maintenance on something sitting.

I just googled the products and this is what I came up with.

I have used this unit as well, for six and soon to be seven years during protracted storage. I connect it using the underhood connections rather than directly to the trunk mounted battery, and it has performed perfectly. A very reliable product.

Do you guys really kill batteries without the tenders? I store my car from November 1 - March 31 in a cold cold barn in Upstate NY. Every spring, after sitting all season, I hit the key, and it comes right to life like I was just driving it yesterday. 2011 car, original battery.
