Exhaust cutout troubleshooting. Electrical?
I'm trying to figure out what my issue is or could be with my exhaust cut outs. Right side opens and closes but the left side will only close and not open.
I bench tested the motor on and off the car and it spins both ways. I just replaced the switch because of a frayed wire. I swapped plugs around from side to side and the issue still stays on the left side. Does anybody have any ideas what it could be? I figured if it works one way then it should work the other way since it's just a 2 way polarity switch setup. |

When u say u swapped plugs around do u mean that u tried the left side on the right side wires and the left side on the right sides wires with the same results?

what brand? check if there are switches on the valve, sounds like there's an issue, I do know they fail in the closed position which sounds like is happening to u.

QTP.
There is no switch on the valve. It works fine off the car. It works fine if I plug it into the right side. |

put a meter on the plugs and verify your polarity flip, I'd start by checking that switch you replaced....sounds like the contact configuration might be different, wired wrong or defected.
Metering the plug will at least tell u what is and isn't happening. |

Was not working before hand. Found out the wiring at the switch was burnt up. Bought a new switch from qtp with the wiring and put it in and still the same thing.

is the switch a double pole? (is half the switch for the left side and the other for the right side?
If it is, swap the motor wires so the left is on the right and the same for the other side, see if the problem changes sides too. |

I have not had a chance to meter it yet.
Yes that is the type of switch it is. I switched the motor plugs coming off the switch and the problem still stays on the left side. It does not move side to side. |

The system has a toggle switch with a small harness attached. Red goes to power and black goes to ground. The other 2 wires get plugged into a separate harness that runs to the exhaust cutouts. The exhaust cutouts then get plugged into that intermediate harness .
I removed the left motor from the intermediate harness and plugged it into the right side and it still works. I also tried swapping the 2 plugs at the toggle switch side and that made no difference side to side. |
