I do almost all my driving in the city, I have a manual, and I'm only getting 8-9 mpg. Am I doing something wrong? It is constant stop and go but I don't have a lead foot. I'm not nitpicking I just think it would be nice to get the 14 mpg it's rated for in the city if I can.

Or is 8 mpg more realistic for real world city driving than what it's rated for? If so that's fine I just want to know what I should expect to be getting.

Im guessing you might be getting on it too much? I drive around town and usually get between around 13-14mpg. Do you keep the rpms below 3k?

Higher revs=higher fuel consumption. I go between 14 and 16MPG around town. I have not done a long trip yet to get maximum mileage. I know if I stay below 70 on the freeway mileage improves.

Well, I am interested in this because I am looking at upgrading my SS to either a 1LE or a ZL1 and for a daily driver it is good to know what my fuel budget needs to be. It sounds like the ZL1 does okay.

I wouldn't know what gas mileage I'm getting.... don't care about it! I didn't buy it to save gas.... I bought it for the Grin-Per-Miles it puts on my face. I love my ZL1, it looks good, is a beast when I want it to be and purrs along smoothly when I want to just take it easy.

I don't think it's crazy to hope for better MPG on this car. I'd like to take it places and there's no way it'll ever be a trailer queen. Better MPG on the highway would be a bonus. Someone should look into whether the engine could be de-tuned for better MPG when touring the car. Somehow couple an economy tune to the touring/wet traction modes. When you're ready for a little excitement, put it in sport mode and return to a performance tune. OK, maybe it is crazy...

Yeah, when I need to do a road trip for a couple hours it would be cool to put it in economy mode and sit back. Why not?

That's good to know as I will be headed to Monterey in July for MotoGP at Laguna Seca.

...I'm almost at 1,500 miles....have had the car for about 11 months, and I average for the lifespan of the car 12.2 miles a gallon. Granted, I don't drive part throttle, at long distance in ultra high gear trying to sqeeze MPG while consciously being aware to do so. But, as far as the real world goes...having a Hi Performance car, driven by a performance enthusiast, I'm more mainstream I think about real world results. Why own this thing if you don't drive it....taking the drive part into performance context.
