quarter panel repair vs replace?
I have some pretty bad damage to my quarter panel behind the door and have been told many different things and given very different estimates
some have told me they would replace the quarter panel because it would never look the same with repairing it while others have told me they would just repair it because replacing it would involve cutting the car apart, roof being removed ect ect I don't like the idea of either but im leaning towards repair if I think it will look normal...and i wont be paying for this so its not about money i just want some opinions of anyone who has had this situation or knows about camaro repairs |

God that sucks. Either way they are going to have to cut, or drill and pull. Depending on the cost, a whole new 1/4 panel cut out and welded in may be a good option, but with more cutting/welding comes a greater chance for them to screw something up.
Tough call.

Be aware that a 1/4 panel is a bodyside . Complete all the way up to the roof and A-pillar. Door opening and everything . So they will most likely cut that and patch it in.

I have been told what all will be cut and i dont like the idea of that but my chevy dealership where i bought my car told me there would be so much bondo in there to repair it and their opinion was it wouldn't look the same
on the other hand ive had people tell me they could repair it fine and wouldn't be able to tell a difference but was just take a lot of time |

Yea, I wouldn't think they would replace an entire quarter. They'll get an entire quarter and cut out and section in the needed area. Going to be hard to get in behind to properly work the damage out.

IF thats where the 1/4 seam is for a new one, then most of the seam should be hidden, and if its a quality shop, youll be good. You would much rather waviness, filler, etc on a seam, than in the middle of a body panel. Think about it, would you wrather have damage on the edge of your kitchen table and fix it, or right smack in the middle of it. I say replace.

I had similar damage done to mine. They did a repair and it looks absolutely perfect!! I was ready to send it back when I learned they didn't replace it and was completely surprised. You can rub your hands over it and it feels perfect. The shop that did the repair also has a lifetime warranty, so im covered if the paint changes in the future. Just find a trustworthy shop and trust them, they do this for a living.

Drilling and pulling? Bondo? No pro shop sculpts that dent with bondo, and they don't drill and pull, either, not if they have any idea of what they are doing. If there's any access to the rear of that damage, they can massage it back out- if they have a metal knocker that's any good.
