1le in trouble... Please help!

Hey guys I need some help here. I posted this in the designated area with no luck! Anyways, the other day someone had to move my camaro and left it in first gear. Well im used to leaving it in neutral so when I went to start it I didnt realize it was in first gear, when I turned it on I let go of the clutch and it jerked foward that I immediately depressed the clutch, I dont know why it was just was my first reaction. I dont know if it was the e brakes, tranny or differential but it made an ugly loud screechy grind sound. I left it there as its getting body work done but I had to test drive it cause it sounded that bad. All drives well from what I can tell but is this something I should worry about? Is there a chance something did get damaged? Its a 1le and maybe just in my head but I felt the shifter a bit tighter. Not sure but I just cant stop breaking my head how did I let this happen! Hope someone can help with any advise! Thanks!

Car is fine. All you did was stall it out (or almost did). If the e brake was still applied then the sound you heard could have been the brakes dragging. Nothing serious.

Your car is fine. For what it is worth, I always set my parking break, but I always leave it in gear as an added safety. It does not hurt the car at all to leave it in gear, and then if the parking break were to fail (as doubtful as it is), you still have the engine breaking to help hold the car in place. The main point is your car is just fine!

I would sleep next to the car for at least the next 72 hours with a fire extinguisher as it may burst into flames and you want to be there to save it. This is common and occurs when you dump the clutch and then clutch it again.. material from the clutch disc drops inside the tranny housing and is like kindling...You will hear the popping noise first before you smell the smoke........

Or I would just not think twice about as we have all done it and you have a 5yr/100K driveline warranty!

Rest easy, you bought a pretty tough car. You should have seen my wife drive mine for the first time... All I can say is that is still runs great.

As mentioned the car is pretty tough....

"A Friend" was on a road course at a high rate of speed when he went to shift from 3rd to 4th gear and stuck it in 2nd and released the clutch. It locked up the rear tires and revved the motor before said friend pushed the clutch in.....6000+ miles later and all is still good. A lessor car would have been hurt

Happened to me when I took delivery of my car as it was 15 years since I drove manual. This was when the 1LE first came out in late 2012 and there was a crowd gathered looking at the car. Needless to say the embarassment was enough to keep me from EVER doing this again. Car is fine bud, just a scare and emarassment.

Ahh now I know what happened to me when I test drove a zl out of a dealer's storage lot. I started the car and let go of the clutch, and all of a sudden the car leaped back and boom..........! I was sweating bricks, but luckily it was a love tap (no damage) being that a car was right behind me. Being a manual novice I couldn't exactly figure out what happened, but I summize that somenoe left the car in reverse when unloading it from the truck. Well...someone will appreciate that I loosened up their zl1 lol!!!!
