JBL stands behind their MS-8

I got my MS-8 last June. I had it setting above the taillight on my car while I was working on some wires. The MS-8 slid off and fell to the concrete striking a corner of the unit. Now I haven't heard one to know what everything should work like but I don't think it has been 100% since I installed it. Vocals tend to crackle at volumes where the system is not really being pushed hard and it doesn't come on when it is cold out.

Earlier this winter it would not come on when temps were in single digits. It is in the factory amp location mounted with a ******** amp board. I think it eventually gets some heat from exhaust and come on left channel first and later the right channel will come on if the temps are above freezing. It didn't do this for the first few months. With this behavior I suspect it has a fractured circuit in it.

I sent an e-mail to JBL support and they thanked me for being honest about it being dropped during install and said they will replace it with a refurb at no cost. I couldn't expect anything more from them under the circumstances. Now I can't wait to get the new one so I can hear it the way it is meant to be.

I will also be getting a ******** Stealth box and a JL 12w7 to push with one of my Alpine PDX 1000.1's. With the Focal KRX2 speakers up front this should sound awesome.

I appreciate the fact that JBL support rocks! They have gained my

The tweeters start out a little harsh but calm down over time and sound amazing. They hit the highest highs crisp and have great range being 2". I put mine in the doors facing rearward. Where the mirror control was on driver side, move control up farther, and just above the window switch on passenger side. I've had them in for almost a year. They sound better now than early on.
I am powering mine with Alpine PDX 4.150. If you are using the JL HD900/5 they should sound great. I got a good deal but they still weren't cheap. Still worth the price though.
I'll be shipping my MS-8 out today and hope to have the replacement within a couple weeks. I just got a JL 12W7 sub too. Should sound damn good when I get the MS-8 back.

I can really crank it without the MS-8 hooked up but would distort with it. Pretty sure it was damaged. Good luck with your system ARod.

Is the MS-8 considered the best line out converter + eq for the camaro's stock HU? I'm wondering if it might work for powering aftermarket speakers too considering it claims to output 18w/channel x8. Any way to bridge those channels to get more juice?

I send the outputs of the MS-8 to amplifiers. The MS-8 is more a sound processor than converter. It tunes the system to the interior of your car and also time aligns the sound from the speakers so they arrive at you rears at the right time. Makes awesome sound.

Do you have any pics of the MS-8 in the factory amp location?

I'd like to see this too. I have been down a pocket emptying rabbit hole and have an MS-8 headed to my door. Need some amp/ms-8 mounting ideas.
