Ideal Shift RPM

I did a search and didn't find anything on this, but what are the ideal rpm to shift at in a 1/4 mile? This would be for a stock setup.

Thanks, and kick me if I missed another thread about this...

I would say 5900 without any power drop off.

There is no single, "ideal" shift rpm. The idea is to maximize the average HP in each gear. This means (among other things) that the optimum 1/2 shift point will be a bit different than the optimum 2/3 shift point, which is also somewhat different than the 3/4 shift point. Also, two people shifting the exact same car will have different shifting styles and different reaction times (as it relates to the coordinated shifting of the transmission) and thus will start the shifting process at a somewhat different rpm.

So, how is the "optimum" shift point determined? Easiest way is with a dyno sheet from your car and a shift point calculator (do a net search for one), and then with practice.

VERY GENERAL rule of thumb? 500-700 rpm above peak, HP.

So on a stock LS3, where is the peak HP?

Doesn't the LS3 start to redline at 6200 rpm?

I usually shift at 6k just not to take the motor into red line. Am I wrong for doing this?
