GM's response to the 4 star crash test???
Has anyone heard anything regarding GM's response to the 4 star crash test results? Are changes in the works to improve this? Fbodfather, are you able to comment?
And before someone starts with the "if you want 5 stars, you can't be a true Camaro lover"...I've owned Camaros for longer than some of you have been alive! Have had at least 40 of them during the past 31 years and hope to own many more , but I won't put my kids in a car that isn't 5 stars all around - that's just my choice. Money for a 2SS/RS sits in the bank...just need the stars now

I do not know what GM would do differently. I bought a car in 2006 that had a 5-star rating without side-impact air bags. Toward the end of 2006 when the newer models came standard with side-impact air bags, my earlier model was lowered to 4-stars. Why? I do not know, perhaps the standards changed. In 2007, there was a pretty exhaustive study looking at crash test ratings and real-world safety. The one thing I remember about the findings was that cars geared toward hot rodders or younger drivers (e.g., sports cars) had higher fatality rates regardless of the crash test rating.

I would think that ones view on safety shouldn't be mocked or questioned. If the guy wants 5 stars he wants 5 stars. His first part was a legiment question. his second comment was legit too. Obviously he knows how people get bashed oh this site. safety should be an area where anyone mocks or is criticial about.

I agree with the OP, stick to your guns! Saftey first, I have seen first hand the results of vehicles that have poor crash ratings and ones with good ratings. Often it's the difference between walking a way or taking a ride in an ambulance.

The OP has a legitimate right for his opinions. As much as we all love the Camaro, and I have no reason to think it's a death trap, with today's modern technology there is no reason this Camaro should get LESS than a 5 star rating all around when a flippin SMART can get a 4 star rating!
Yes, I am a little dissapointed in this as well. Of course, GM will eventually have some sort of press release explaining how, with their more stringent in house testing, they achieved the highest scores and find some glitch in the way the IIHC tests cars. |

Thanks for the support guys! I love the car, but I live in a big city with lots of idiot drivers and I want to keep my kids (and me and the wife too) as safe as possible! I'm sure GM will address this, but would love to hear something from them whether it be official or unofficial insider info...

4 stars is still less than... 15% chance of severe injury? I don't remember the exact scale. Pretty sure 5 is under 10% and 4 is like 11%-15%
It's 4 stars were only on front-impact if I recall correctly. Most accidents tend to be side or rear impact, so in all reality your chance of sever injury in a Camaro is still very low. Someone who knows will correct me I'm sure.
