I was wondering if anybody noticed that they may have an upper strut mount failure?

They changed it in the type of material for the 2013 Camaro and up. This applies to all I do believe of the V8's. Not sure for the Z28's, V6's or ZL1's.

Read my comment as well if you like.. Please check your upper strut mounts if still have them OEM.

My comment: I know this an older video. Just want to inform those that are interested. I have a 2015 1LE and I think with the change is a problem. Just tracked my car the first time on a HPDE road course (May 7, 2015). I notice the front end was sitting lower than normal and when I finished detailing the car out it looks like the upper strut mounts have failed.

Basically I have about 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap from the top of the strut and the upper wheel well. I am thinking the change that Chevy has made is not a wise choice in material. Does any one else notice this gap?
I have looked at several 5th Gen pic within the engine bay and they seem to have the upper strut mount sitting tight with no gap.

Oh...I will take pics soon forgot to take them., too show what gap that I see in the engine compartment on the strut mount provision.

there should not be a gap at all looking at pics from others when I goggle 1LE engine and view from the image tab..

I'm not a suspension expert but the has been a discussion on this before. If memory serves me correctly the gap you speak of is normal. At least that was the information posted in the thread. I'll go look at mine in a bit and let you know how mine sits.

Yea its just like that.

I just remember that they were sitting flush before tracking it.

Would it be worth going through the hassle of taking it in or not to worry about it.. Within specs type of thing?

Concur with HoJo. Think we've seen a recent thread saying that the gap is normal. I have it on mine, didn't notice the gap before someone else brought it up, checked and it was there. Track the car as well.

Ok here are the pics.

I know it may be normal but its odd that if you look close at the top of the wheel well and the bottom of the mount you can tell that it (DID) sit snug with (NO).

Was wondering if others that have 2012 or earlier model has that kind of gap. To me it seems something is compressed or failed.

Just my observation.

I seem to recall this being brought up as well. I think someone mentioned that if you turn your wheels side to side you will see the gap open and close.

What is this suppose to prove?

Ok turned the wheels and it moves to the angle in which the you turn the steering. More aligned with chamber throw as the tire/strut assy change it angle of attack.

I can see it not being a problem and is why in other posts people hear a popping noise sometimes going over speed bumps. However I read where a guy had is shock replaced because of the popping because of it not rebounding fully.

Now I know why people tend to dump the OEM struts and because of the issues.
