I think trucks are 'body on frame' because of towing requirments. A ball hitch on a unibody would deform the structure if you towed, say anything over 2000-3000 lbs. That is why the Honda Rdgeline towing ability is way less than a Silverado or F150. Its basically a Honda Pilot (which is built on the Accord unibody).
Basically, if you want to tow (or haul), you need a frame. |

I believe the 1961–1963 F series were available as unibody.

Just so it's out there... Unitized body:
(′yü·nə′tīzd ′bäd·ē) (engineering) An automotive body that has the body and frame in one unit; side members are designed on the principle of a bridge truss to gain stiffness, and sheet metal of the body is stressed so that it carries some of the load. Ford uni trucks ... or whatever they called em(styleside?) ... were body on frame.
