So, I've done a bit of research in why my Nexus 6P doesn't read back texts through AA. According to Android forums, the issue seems to be a hit or miss that isn't reliable; some people have reported that one moment it'll read their texts back flawlessly, then the next simple text message won't. My brother's iPhone read texts back using Car Play without issue so the issue isn't the radio. Bottom line, AA is still in it's infancy and might be resolved via future Android updates.

I can't make Whatsapp work on Android Auto using my Sony Xperia Z5 Compact phone running Android 6.0.1.

Does any one why, or how to fix it?

Thanks.

Need specifics on what it is doing. It is listed as an Android Auto compatible app.

You will not see Apple CarPlay (except in the settings) unless you have an iPhone connected. So if you are referring to what you see in settings (with no Android Auto) then likely you don't have an the Android Auto update for early MY16 cars. You will need to take it to the dealer for the update.

Yes, it's listed and I updated all the software but Whatsapp just doesn't show in Android Auto, I can't find it anywhere.

I have a call into the dealer to get the update.

Thanks

You guys might find this helpful. I have tried several USB cords to attach my phone to the USB port inside the console compartment. One was too long, and was a pain to deal with. The other was too short, so I couldn't get the phone all the way out of the compartment (I like to leave it on top of the console).

Anyway, I found these cheap USB cords that have a little spring loaded reel, so you can make them short or long: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017149DIM

They are not the most robust feeling, so maybe wil crap out after a while, but I just used one today for the fisrt time, and it worked fine.

Have you tried plugging your S6 in with the charging cord? The Android Auto should come up automatically when you do that.

Messaging apps do not show. They run in the background. It works the same way as text messaging, just from different sources. Have someone send you a message on whatsapp and you will see it pop up, then you can tap it to play the message or say reply to dictate a reply.

Yes I tried that, I have come to the conclusion that my car needs the update. I called the dealership and they had someone call me back and they had no idea what i was talking about. They had never heard of an update for Android Auto. They are supposed to check on it and call me back.

Typical, most dealers are clueless. Check out these threads for info on the update:

Have you tried changing cables? It seems to be sensitive to this. I originally tried with a 3rd party cable, and AA wouldn't come up at all. Switched to my OEM cable, and it came up immediately, and has worked flawlessly ever since. I think a lot of us have cheap cables that are fine for charging, but won't stand up to the data rates needed for AA.
