Well, fazm, I'll eat tentative crow and give props, but how do your V6 suspension parts, tranny and clutch stand up to 500 horses of abuse? What's the compression ratio on a 4.0 anyway? Did you do a twin setup or an after-Y-pipe type? Intercooled, I presume?

the v6 has mostly the same suspension as a gt, minus a couple pieces. all ive done is aftermarket lower control arms and thats it. springs/shocks/struts are all stock.

i swapped in an 8.8 rear from a gt, which also broke, so i installed a trutrac differential into it, and its since been fine. ive blown 5 transmissions (t-5 trans is rated at 300 flywheel torque, im WELL over that) and i just finished swapping in a tr3650 which should be a lot stronger (as well as a lot of custom work). the clutch is a stage 3 spec, its been fine.

compression ratio is 9.7 i think? maybe 9.8? not sure, somewhere around there.

its a single turbo, exhaust manifolds Y together, then to the front of the engine with the uppipe for the turbo. yes its intercooled, and i also have a gas (nitrous or co2) sprayer for the intercooler since it can hit 120+ degrees in the summer here.

i definately have more money in it than the cost difference of a gt, but im also faster than gt500's

How about weight versus a GT500? Handling? How does the flatout compare with a KRGT500? That C/R is IDEAL for turbo setups... Prolly also explains the NA 210 hp rating for 4.0 L engine.

To rein this in a little more on the bowtie side, let's discuss similar strategies with the LT camaro, shall we? Biggest hurdle=11+:1 CR. I know the DI virtually eliminates the threat of detonation, but that isn't the only thing that makes boosting a high CR engine risky. I don't know what the crank, rods and pistons are like OEM. Anything forged? What about combustion chamber pressures? Might have to shore up the head gaskets, I'm not sure as I've never dealt with an engine with this high of CR before, not to mention with DI. Maybe somone with diesel experience can chime in?

Actually that CR is probably more NA friendly than FI. 8.5 or a little lower would be ideal, but you'd also give up some power off boost. Sounds like a nice setup fazm.

ive done some lightening of my car, and in track form its around 3200lbs. the gt500 is 3800+. handling? ya my car doesnt do that. i have no sway bars on it since im not much of a corner carver anyway.

my car also still retains the stock 3.31 gearing, and i drive with a 295/45/18 tire (over 28" i believe, compared to the stock 26.7" tires).

i could definately make my car faster, but id like to go 11.5's or quicker on 12psi and without removing any interior pieces.

the gt500KR ran 11s in stock form, so as of now, its quicker than me. nevermind putting slicks and skinnies on it, itd destroy me.

heres my car in drag form.

for longevity yes 8.5 would definately be ideal, but i love having the low end grunt, and with 8.5 i would be giving some of that away.

as it sits right now, at 2000rpm in 1st gear, if i nail it, im at full boost before 4500. in 4th gear (as you can see on the graph) full boost comes in at 3200 or so without an EBC, and with it (no graph picture) im at 2800rpm for full boost in 4th.

if i ever decide to build up the motor, id drop down to 9.2 or 9.4 CR, and do head/cam work.

ive been thinking the same thing. if you do boost it, 4-7psi is probably going to be all you are safely going to get out of it. but on my motor they also said 9psi was as high as you should go, and the people that built my motor went 23psi lol.

7psi on the stock 3.6 should be good for almost 400rwhp though, and for most people that is plenty fine. (assuming you do a turbo setup)

Cool Camaro will still win

History proves that even if Mustang has some more HP it still loses for one main reason, WEIGHT. It's fat as hell and always has been, plus the Camaro has independent suspension and 6 speeds for all models, that puts it way ahead of Ford, the 'Stang will always be in second to Camaro. My stock 2000 Z28 will beat most all of the 'Stang's, especially the new GT, I know because I've already claimed a couple in street races.

you know that the new camaro is quite a bit heavier than the current and planned 2010 stang right?

from like 3700lbs for the lightest model to just over 3900 for the heaviest model.

the s197 stangs range from 3300 to about 3600, and then the gt500 is over 3800.

Until they live up to modern safety standards. That might be 2012, but then the mustang could weigh just as much or more if they add some of the modern amenities.

I had my head handed to me many times when I owned my 03 Z06 by the 390HP Cobra's. Turns out that with a simple chip and under dive pulley HP could jump very easily by 75 or so.

There was almost no way to know if these guys were stock so one had to tread lightly around these Mustangs.

I'm not saying history will be repeated, but I'm sure Ford will have a few tricks up their sleeves. They do know how to make High Performance vehicles, it's not like GM has the corner on the market.

And if anyone thinks different be prepared to get embarrassed at the local track.
