Has anyone done damage to your engine from nitrous?

I just bought a nitrous kit for my 2010 Camaro SS but I haven't had it installed yet. I've read about people blowing their cars up after installing nitrous and I've read that people have used with no problems. The installer that I talked to told me that with the newer nitrous systems they are much safer to use than ever before. They come with the sensors they have now the NOS wouldn't inject if there was a problem with the engine. I've never ran NOS so it's all new to me but I don't want to take a chance in blowing up my engine.

I read the sticky on NOS which was very helpful and the post suggested it's not dangerous when installed and used correctly......I just want to make sure I do everything I can to not damage my engine.

There's always that what if with nitrous. Just last night I watched a car blow its intake apart from a nitrous backfire.

I would look into another power adder. Single turbo kits from huron will be in the same price point as a well put together nitrous kit. Just something to think about

1)Never spray under 3000 rpm.

2)Make sure your tune is richer at WOT and you pull the timing back 2 or 3 degrees per 100 hp.

3)Don't get greedy 100 to 150 max on a stock bottom end.

4) Use as many safety systems as you can(low FP cut off, nitrous timer, rpm switch ect)

Do your research go to the different systems web sites and read.

I had a 100 shot on another car. I set it up to only work at wot. I also tapped the fuel rail for additional fuel supply to the nozzle. The setup worked like a charm and was very safe. Like others said, don't get greedy with it, proper setup, and failsafes will all work together to prevent detonation. Of course no guarantee though.

Go with an lsa or single turbo instead.

I’m aware of several instances of buddies mishaps:

1. Burnt a plug tip which took out a cylinder due to too lean
2. Nitrous backfired that split the SC pan underneath. I don’t know what causes them.
3. Killing cylinders due to forgetting to manually turn on race fuel cell with the octaned fuel. So, that was running too much timing for the street octane gas.

I have always left this to the big boys. Dominic "Dom" Toretto, for example. He can do it...no problems.
