Hi all,

Well, for me, it was NEVER about the price or future collector status. I got this car because it was visceral, and for me, represented what I wanted out of a 60's era muscle car, which was really unavailable to me at that time. Superb handling, exceeding the SCCA race cars of that era, and still offering street driving capabilities. I also love the look of the Gen5 cars, which carry quite a bit of the 1969 Camaro styling.

In my mind, I believe that no matter how the current trend of pricing goes, these cars will increase in the future, especially if they are well maintained....simply because of the small number made. Chevy is going to flood the world with the new ZL1 1LE, which is a fine car, just not to my tastes with it's wing and other gadgets.

Some people will always have to have the newest, latest greatest thing out there, which will ALWAYS be outdone in the successive years by the next newest, latest greatest thing. My '15 Z/28 will stay performance/mechanically stock, will have low miles, and will be my last performance car. I'll probably pass it on to one of my sons when I'm gone...since they both love it as much as I do.

Just my opinions, and good luck to all of you who are considering trading/selling. You're giving up a very rare car.

Take care,

JJ

I didn't buy mine with a plan to resell it. I didn't buy mine to be a garage queen. And I sure as hell didn't buy mine because I thought I could pay for my grandson's college education some day.

I bought it to drive it.

Yes, I will probably trade it off someday if/when the mood strikes me. What it will be worth is what it is because when I do, I will be ready to move on to something different. I will get a fair price for it or I won't make the deal.

But I bought it to DRIVE it NOW and that enjoyment is priceless.

Old guys .02c - I bought my first 69Z in 1978 it was rough and I kept it many years as DD then weekend car then got my second one in 1987 after first one was wrecked and I still have it today. I liked it then and still do now, buy what YOU like and enjoy it!
When they announced in '13? that the Z was coming back I really got excited thinking they would be between a SS and a ZL1? boy was I wrong and disappointed. both Z's and my other 69s (had a 6 cyl convert then a pace car) were reasonable to buy in the 80s- under 2k I'd have a hard time buying one for what they are worth now. All cars do the cycle- drop down few years or immediately after purchase then go back up due to attrition and they become rarer than they were new.
These modern Z's will rebound, my advice- keep them stock or few easy to do bolt ons - and save your original parts! You guys own modern day classics! when you bought it you agreed on the price for what you wanted and got. Isn't the car still amazing after a couple years? I am Grateful for all of the experiences in all my different cars and yes I do regret selling many/all of them but I wanted to try something different, cant keep em all!
now who wants to trade for my old one?

Purchased a 69Z when it was three years old for $2400
Sold it at age 17 to go race motorcycles
Kicking myself to this da for selling the car
Can't keep everything through life
Purchased a new 87 IROC Z every option
Sold it last year with under 11k miles to purchase an ATC trailer
Purchased new 15Z when the 20% under MSRP was offered
I purchased this car because it reminds me of a modern day 69Z28
I like it sooo much

Same here - however I have no kids. I have looked at the new ZL1 LE and the GT350R (because I also like Ford - yes I know its a sin) and the Demon.

I even had a dream one night about buying all my favorite muscle cars. During this dream I had to decide which one I wanted to drive that day. I got frustrated thinking,"Why did I buy all these cars? I went over the best points of each car (that I read about or seen videos on) and then I woke up! I realized I already had my favorite car - the 2015 Z/28! There is nothing else like it for me. I now realize that newer and different doesn't mean better when you already have exactly what you want.

Hey all,

This thread also reminded me of something that happened the first week I had the Z/28. There is a great mountain road that I drive up near my home...for fun and to use a large turnout at the top for photos.

I drove the Z/28 up there that 1st week to take some photos, and sure enough, there was a film crew up there also, filming an ad for the web site for aftermarket parts for Porsches (some off road computers for the engine management systems on the GT3R's).

It was kind of funny, as soon as I pulled into the turnout, the entire crew stopped what they were doing and all began to check out my car. They had a guy who was running a camera drone to film the GT3R as it ran up and down the road, and several other cameramen and production crew members there. The driver of the GT3R, whom I assumed was the owner of the parts company, even took a good hard look at my car.

None of them spoke to me, as I took several stills with my Canon, but it was, to me anyway, a sign that the Z/28 certainly did have an "attraction factor" that at least rivaled the triple cost of that GT3R. I now really wish I had taken some stills of that event, just to show the impact of our great cars on the general public in contrast to other ultra high cost vehicles.

I really believe our cars will be of classic collectable status in the future.

Take care, and enjoy your Z/28!!!!!

I sure do.....

JJ

From time to time I get on my soap box about "why GM cars don't hold their value"
Sitting here watching Barrett Jackson Palm Beach and they have a new Dodge demon (3,000 produced) for sale that comes with a "crate kit". a real crate that contains complete documentation & everything you need when you get to the drag strip including skinny front wheels.
My first thought.....most people here can't even get a certificate of authenticity (COA) on a very unique Z /28 car that only 1,800 were produced ! I rest my case.

I have a very documented Z/28 with COA, signatures of everyone that built it, the build sheet with the plant managers signature and a poster with the plants signatures. I also have pictures of the engine being made. If you think I can sell it for much more than any other one for sale you are mistaken. A piece of paper does not have any relevance on a car holding its value.

Not in the same ballpark with your Z/28's, but when I was looking to get an '18 1LE they offered 6k for my '13 RS. I actually laughed at how much my car is worth now. She's almost as pristine as the day I got her, but that doesn't matter. I plan to drive the wheels off her or die trying.

Yes these cars are investment caliber cars. Yes they are going to continue to fall for quite some time, but they aren't going to hit extremely low numbers like a regular SS or anything. They are always going to be desirable due to the low production numbers, and the fact that they are HALO cars for the brand. If you want to track the pricing, follow along the Ford BOSS 302's for '12 and '13. BOSS's still command premium numbers compared to a regular 5.0.

I bought the Z28 because it was one hell of a track car for $50,000. There isn't a $200,000 car that can keep up with me other then a Z06 at $100,000 and they can only keep up on cold days or for 4 or 5 laps and then they go into limp mode due to over heating.

A Z28 is cheaper then building a C5 into a track car. To hell with collectability.
