My 2012 2SS l99 decided to fail on me two weeks ago. No warranty and $7K later, I have her back. One of the AFM lifters collapsed because the spring broke and made hamburger out of my cam. 4K in labor 2.5k in parts and then taxes.
I was 2 hours away from home, just started vacation in Disney so ran it to the nearest dealership (Starling Cheverolet). Called GM and asked for some coverage and they told me to pound salt.

Am I the only one with a workhorse motor that failed at 57k miles?

But I'm totally stoked to have her back ! : )
I'm sorry you had a failure, but as a GM tech I gotta say it. You got hosed BIG time on labor and parts. 7K is near full engine replacement money.

Didn't GM put an extended warranty on the AFM and components? It is on our 2010 Escalade with AFM...

These lifters are one reason I bought a v6. I know a bunch of people that had major troubles with them out of warranty.

Not an issue on an LS3. A better alternative, no matter how you put it - would have been to... ahhh nevermind! lol Reality truly is relative.

Our 2010 Cadillac has a special 10 year "Special" warranty on this which we received in 2013.

An alternative? You make it sound like it's either/or. The V6, when I bought mine, was at least $8-10k less than an equivalent SS V8. Yeah, I know you can option up these V6's to SS territory, but I'd never do that.

Reality is the V6 is cheaper in most cases.

I called GM Corporate and they told me to pound salt. I didn't ask that specifically but will surely check. Jeeze ... If I get my 7k back ..... I'm pulling the motor.
