Timing Chain Brand

Hello all!

I'm putting together an LFX out of a 2014 Camaro for a swap (Fiero). The engine had ~100k when pulled. Changing some of the gaskets, I saw some wear on the timing chains. Due to the high mileage and the issues these engines tend to have, I'd like to change it.

My question is as follows - Are the cheaper sets (~$150) acceptable replacements? My plan is to spray the motor into oblivion (eg 200 shot). Or should I just bite the bullet and get a cloyes/melling set?

Thanks!

if you already have it apart, and out of the car, put new chains on it.
the bottom end on these engines are great.

I'd buy the GM kit from the dealer. The reviews on amazon are saying the Cloyes kit had idler sprocket bearing failure causing engine damage. https://www.amazon.com/Cloyes-90753S...ustomerReviews

Cloyes is an OE supplier for GM

I've used cloyes on multiple engines with great success. I only saw one review WRT the socket freezing... the user stated that in 4 rotations the sprocket completely froze causing the chain to jump and bent valves. I'm extremely dubious of that claim. "I'll take 'he didn't install it correctly' for $100"

Guess I'll just do it and go for the better set.

Why not do the 3800 swap?

Because I've done that before. And the 3800 sounds like crap.

I also think the LFX characteristics suit the car better.

Oh, and I also plan on spraying the motor into orbit. Lot easier to find replacement LFXs than it is 3800s

There was a few that the idler bearing failed breaking off the fastener along with it. One after they had driven 1500 miles.

Will definitely be interesting to see how you are able to cram an LFX in there. What model year is the Fiero?

People have done Northstar V8 swaps in them so a 60* V6 shouldn't be too difficult.
