Has anyone been able to install any of these so they display on our headunits? I know I can run them on android auto, just hoping to install directly to the car :P

I don't think that this is possible.

The headunit is based on Android.

I know from other OEMs with Android headunits that the installer packages were removed. Therefore it was not possible to install any apps manually.

If you are really interested in the installation, you could also ask the development team of GM directly:

https://developer.gm.com/in-vehicle-apps

There is also a SDK and emulator available for download. That means you could start making your own apps.

I downloaded the older MyLink SDK and registered as a developer, but looking through the available APIs, the system was extremely limited in what it allowed you to do. Basically, one was limited to media services already offered by existing apps, so all one could do is package, say, a file reader or audio player in a new UI and have slightly different control logic. My plan was to develop a native Torque app, but there was no API access to data channels normally exposed via OBD-II, so I gave up.

Now granted, this was on the 2016-2018 platform, so gm may have opened things up more in the new 2019+ infotainment, but somehow I feel that would be unlikely.

I registered today and I saw that there is is even a documentation on making a speedometer app. It seems that GM opened some APIs. But I don't know for which model years.

Some very basic signals such as speed, rpm, pedal and button statuses or the vehicle's GPS position have always been available, but nothing more nuanced such as ethanol percentage, IAT or MAP values, injector pulse width etc.

Pick up an Ottocast. I have that plugged in to my USB and have full Android unit (not the car) and can and do run HWR with my R8, can run any app and/or throw up live TV, streaming (neither recommended), Apple Music, etc.

Does this just work with IPhones or does it work with Android as well?
