2LT Vs 2SS
Hi everyone! I have test driven 2 Camaros this weekend. One was a 2012 SS the other a 2012 2LT. I currently have a 2002 Z28. When driving the 2LT we really did not notice much difference in torque than in my current z28. I am thinking that a 2Lt would be sufficient for me.
Besides the obvious difference in the engine (v6 vs v8) and price, is there any other major differences between the 2Lt and the 2SS? I was thinking that the 45th Anniversary 2LT would be a sharp ride in itself. P.S. I would be getting the RS package no doubt! Thanks Last edited by tjrobinson; 06-19-2012 at 10:22 AM. |

tjrobinson, considering we are talking about the 2LT and the 2SS.....from the outside, and its appearance, the only difference is the front facia, and regardless of whether you get the LT or the SS, get the RS package. on the INSIDE.....the only thing tht is differenct is the speedo range between the V8 (180 mph) and the V6 (160 mph), and on the SS there is a timy SS on teh stearing wheel.
oh and btw.......Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Brace Yourselves.... it's coming...
Here's how you should look at it: V8: Power V6: Economy If you can deal with 2 less cylinders get the V6. I have the V6 and and it has great pull and I'm very happy with it for my DD. However I would love to graduate to the 2SS, it just doesn't make sense for my current needs. If you can easily swing the added costs of running the V8 do it, especially if you don't daily drive it. Otherwise you will almost certainly find yourself wanting more power, especially if you stay on this site. Trust me. |

No doubt about it, a 45th anniversary 2LT is and always will be a beautiful and powerful car. That being said, many people who got the V6 are either regretting it or now switching over to a V8. There are plenty of people who have a V6 who love it and would never trade it for a V8, Its just about what you want and will stay happy with. All I am saying is that if you are considering the 2SS, I don't think that feeling will go away, and it will probably grow stronger after owning the 2LT for awhile. Just something to consider.

You could also look at it this way, the 2012 2LT is very likely to be more powerful than your 2002 Z28 (odd to think a V6 would be a step up from a V8, but in this situation it happens). You'll also save money, gas, insurance, and temptation with the 2LT.
I have a 1LT myself, and have never felt like it wasn't enough on performance.

Yes i think your choice of the 45th 2LT is sounding like its right for you, now all you have to decide is on a manuel or auto trans. and color. Post some pix with your final decision.

I think the 2Lt is fine for ya, your Z28 is lighter, and might have a lil more power. But the trans is better on the 5th gen, and the ride/interior is so much better its unbelieveable. I came from a 4th gen as well.

It also depends on what you're going to do with it. Sure, the V8 is a lot quicker, but it also stops a lot faster and corners a lot better.. The Brembos make a big difference. Our club goes onto Watkins Glen for some spirited laps several times a year and the V6 guys complain about their brakes after about 2 laps. If you're not into any of that and are just going to cruise around town, a 2LT 45th would be awesome.

Buy the 2LT RS 45th Anniversary and put the extra $5-6K you would save over the SS in your pocket. Good luck with you new Camaro.

But I don't think this qualifies as a repost. The OP has a legit reason for the post. If you test drove both and feel that the LT is to your liking then I think you've answered your own question.
