Did 5th gen owners get jipped by GM?

If they keep the current Camaro until 2023, that will be 8 years of production for the Gen6. The Gen5 only had 6 years of production. That is 2 more model years for the Gen6.

IMO, the Gen5 could've went for another 2 or more model years. The update done in 2014 could have lasted more than 2 years. Yes, it was heavy and based off a big sedan from Holden, but the car sold very well and could've continued the sales success for just a little longer until Gen6 came out.

Thoughts?

I don't think we got gypped (short for gypsied, those people are scammers). We bought the best!

They could have swapped to the new motors/transmissions in the 5th and made a few other improvements to squeeze a few more years out of it. Might have even sucked in more of the early 5th gen buyers again.

But Chevy began developing the 6th as soon as the 5th was released. They had a lot of time tied up in the design; you can't blame them for trying to recoup it.

A while ago, Ford did a consumer study and they found out that the majority of car buyers enjoy seeing a new design every 3-4 years. It keeps people interested in the product. IMHO, GM made the right move by only keeping the 5th Gen around for 6 years. Where they failed miserably, was by simply making the 6th Gen an evolution of the 5th and charging a lot more money.

I had a 2010 SS for 3.5 years, a 2013 ZL1 vert for almost 4 years before moving on to a 2017 ZL1, so no, I don't feel I got gypped. I made the best of each and every one of them.

You could always look at it this way; the Mid-Year Corvettes were only produced from 63-67. The C3's from 68-82. Which is more valuable?

I am always being educated on this forum... never put 2 and 2 together the source of the word gypped. Thanks for the lesson Fred!

Dodge hasn't changed the design of the Challenger much and they're still selling.

How did we get jipped? The amount of years it was made didn’t matter once I bought it.

How should we feel jipped? These decisions are way above our pay grade and depend on a lot of variables out of our control.

Spez: if anything we should be happier than owners of the 6th Gen. That model hasn't sold anywhere near as well as our cars did. Plus, the 6th Gen refresh was such an absolute flop they had to rush an emergency fix.
