Radar Detector Wiring

Question? So watched video on how hard wire a radar detector through the light panel above the rear view mirror, only problem is the wiring harness shows black and purple/white wire to be ground and 12v power but I'm not getting 12v to the purple/white wire. Its the wire harness that plugs into the passenger side seat sensor for the air bag. The air bag light is on but I check all the wires and there's only 1 getting like 2.85V not 12v as needed. Any suggestions?

Do yourself a favor and get a piggy back fuse tap and run power to the engine compartment fusebox or the trunk, find a switched circuit. If you hook it to the overhead without a capacitor every time the traction control engages the detector will lose power.

Save yourself the aggravation and get one of these. Yeah it's pricey but shoving extra pins into the terminal block is asking for issues down the road. You have a $40k+ car. No need to cheap out.

They also have them for '16-'18

Just crawl under the dash and splice into the BCM's Accessories power lead

I just did this about 2 months ago for my R3. Make sure the wire is firmly in place. I had issues where the tap would be loose and fall out loosing all Power to my radar.

This is the best option. No cutting wires, no splicing into the harness, no add a tap or any of that nonsense. Even if their store doesn't show an option for the exact brand you have, you can email them and get them to make you a harness that will use the correct voltage and plug.

This is exactly how I did my dash cam, after a few emails back and forth they made me a plug and play harness that just plugs into the overhead console for power and you just plug the rest of the OEM connectors to the new plug. Easy to install, easy to remove is needed in future without any hack job.

I did the tap into the wires in the ceiling thing on my 2017, and 2018 camaro it worked fine. tried it on my current 2020 version and the didnt work.

Bought a harness from DIY 5gen for the permanent wiring.

Second this. It's very easy, mess-free, and reversible without any trace should you need to ever remove it.

In case of Uniden radar detectors, I believe the Gen5DIY units also remedy an issue where the radar detector will shut off if traction control kicks in.

It's a little expensive, sure, but well worth the price, especially considering the traction control glitch you will get by tapping into the mirror wiring.

Yes, I have a Uniden detector and can confirm that the Uniden-specific Gen5DIY harness works perfectly. Expensive or not, I'm all for supporting a worthy small business, and we aren't talking hundreds or thousands of dollars here.

This!

I used gen5diy for my escort on my Gen 6. worth every penny! I did the jumper on my Gen5 and it was a pain in the A$$. And you'd be road trip, look up and the detector is off, then your shaking wires while driving, etc. it would only happen once in a blue mood, but always at a bad time.
