Timing Chain Replaced but still same problem (FIXED)
Hello,
I have 2011 Camaro V6 Cabrio at 55.000miles. I had check engine light which throws P0008,P0009 codes, my car was running sluggish, extreme power loss... I had replaced the timing chain with Cloyes kit next month. But still check engine light is on with an additional P0016 code(P0008-P0009 still there). My car is still running sluggish, nothing changed.. Today i got replaced the 4 VVT Sprockets(cam phasers) with new ones. Still no change. Timing Chain Replaced(Cloyes) 4 Cam Sensors Replaced (AC Delco) 4 VVT Selenoid Sensors Replaced(OEM-Aftermarket) 4 VVT Sprockets Changed(OEM-Aftermarket) ECM flashed - reinstalled software I am so disappointed. What should i do next? Thanks. **********UPDATE 31.05.2021************* Yes, the problem is finally found! It's reluctor wheel! Skipped 1.5 teeth... My mechanics fixed the issue without removing the crank.. YES it's TRUE! He gently and carefully applied force and take the wheel to the original position. BUT BE CAREFUL YOU MAY BREAK THE WHEEL!! He also applied a mini tack weld to avoid any further movements.. My car is back!! Day and night difference... It's a shame that GM's engine has such an important manufacturing defect!!!!!!!!! I recommend everybody who experience P0008, P0009, P0016, P0017 timing related DTCs to CHECK RELUCTOR WHEEL POSITION before replacing the chains... It's very easy... Just remove the oil pan and check the teeth to make sure it's 3.5 teeth away from the crank's edge. Thanks everybody for helping my issue... Last edited by secrethero89; 05-31-2021 at 12:21 PM. |

Were the timing chain tensioners replaced at the same time as the chain? If so, I wonder if the reluctor wheel has moved, putting the crankshaft out of alignment relative to the camshafts.

Yes, it comes with cloyes kit. changed all tensioners, guides.. My mechanics says that it couldn't be reluctor wheel since my car is only at 50.000 miles and it's very unlikely to fail.. Is reluctor wheel a common problem? Anybody experienced issue with Relcutor wheel?

Can you please check my reluctor wheel? It seems like it skipped 1.5 teeth (5 teeth instead of 3.5)

It has definitely moved, it needs to be 3 1/2 teeth from the edge of the crank relief. need to pull the crank and replace it or remove crank and pin the wheel in the correct position.

There are holes in the reluctor wheel you can brace something into, to move it. There is also a fix kit, you drill a hole, tap, and bolt it. The reluctor wheel is at a crank counter weight, so the kit has you drill through the wheel, into that, tap it all the way through and use the provided bolt. I have had a P0009, but it has gone away, and I didn't do anything with the wheel. I had replaced all the VVT solenoids, and cam sensors. Even then, it came up a few times, but I have not had it since I unclogged the driver side muffler. I had that code for a year, and it has not shown up for over 6 months now. It would only come up if I used manual mode, was in 5th or 6th going up a hill with the pedal to the floor. Well, not anymore... |

How did you get the pan off. Is there room with the cross member?
