camaro vs supra

Me: 2011 Camaro LS auto, stock except for Magnaflow

Him: 1991 Toyota supra with turbo

Can I beat him in M with TC off?
Or is there no chance either way?

Which model supra?

They had a 2.5L and a 3.0L

I believe the 2.5L Turbo supra had a high 15 second quarter mile time stock.

I'd say it depends on mods. Is his car stock? A lot of those little 4 banger turbos can be made monsters with a bit of work.

According to wikipedia, assuming that this is a 91, single turbo, your likely looking at a car that puts out between 200-230 HP and somewhere around 195-240 lb.ft of TQ (depending on model) (Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Supra#1991)

With the weight differential between your LS (3750) and that supra (2800lbs), your looking at a HP to weight ratio of roughly:

You: HP:Pounds = 0.0832

Him: HP:Pounds = 0.0821

So, youve got a slight advantage, maybe. I'd say drivers race.. also factor in thats stock for stock.. like i said, his mods are worth more HP for HP than yours, being that he has less weight to pull around..

Those Supra's were great cars and a real shame when Toyota quit making them.

Saying that it is no match for a Camaro SS. I drove one alot that same vintage. If its modded - watch out!

Unless he's modded and it runs like a top, you should have him. Its a 20 year old Jap car.

Unless it's modded you'll be fine. The ones you have to worry about are the 1993+

These are extremely sought after and 99% of them are modded and very quick.

Granted, I realize that this is a domestic site, and that there are plenty of "backwoods" good ole boy types, and just plain, old-fashioned ignorant people out there, I come from the same background...but "Jap" is a racist term used loosely still...good job at sounding ignorant.

And if he's modded, or swapped, you'll lose.

You got 2/3's of that statement right. They are extremely sought after by enthusiasts and (mostly) ricers alike.

Most of them are modded.

But most of them are also sitting at like 150k+ miles nowadays, and have issues.

Finding a clean, low-mileage, reliable one is another issue.

Nobody but an enthusiast will buy one because they will be way too expensive and they won't know what it is. MKIV supra turbos with around 100k miles are still selling for $22k+ . Don't confuse the non-turbo 2jz cars with the 2jzgte cars. The latter are very rare, very sought after, and capable of putting down a lot of power with relatively few mods.
