I had huge problems with this on my t56 in my 98ss...especially after going to long tubes. It was commonly thought that the heat from the exhaust was boiling the clutch fluid and caused the slave to not get any fluid. I wrapped my headers, insulted the fluid line, did the master drill mod (not an issue on new masters) then even changed the master and slave cylinder. I had this issue with a 100% new clutch. There is no way it was brake dust alone causing this problem. I dont have a manual trans, but you might want to take a look at the routing of the clutch fluid line. Id bet its still near the stock exhaust.
I never had problems until I went to long tube headers though. After changing fluid upon fluid, modding parts and replacing everything. I gave up and went with a th350 anyways. Part of the reason I stayed away from stick this time. Its a huge problem throughout the lsx community. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/manual...-write-up.html New dog with the same problems. |

I know that this is an old thread but it is worth bumping with a question in my opinion .
What size rubber plug did you buy for the brake master cylinder reservoir? Thanks and thanks for the write up, I've been telling quite a few people about this . |

Looking to do this mod also. I didn't like the rubber plug sealing off the brake master cylinder reservoir so I looked at an a6 transmission equipped SS Camaro to see if it's brake master cylinder reservoir could be used. It appears the brake master cylinder reservoir is the same for the m6 and a6 transmission cars, the factory just breaks off a plug to attach the clutch slave line on the m6 models. Now I have to find the P/N for the master cylinder reservoir. Ed M.

I also got an answer back from 2SSRS, it's a 3/8" plug. |

So if I suck out the brake fluid (which apparently is DOT3 stock on the LS3) and replace only what is in the reservoir with DOT4, will that mixing DOT3 and 4 be a problem?

excellent. So if I see that the 'brake' fluid is getting dirty looking, I can gradually replace it with Dot4 fluid (which apparently is somehow better)?!

Depending on the brand Dot 4 has a some what higher boiling point, So yes you can. ( That sounds like a theme from 2 years ago)

I will be doing the GTO reservoir also to help this POS Stick / Clutch in the V6 to feel more like a decent trans. When I sit at the light after decent braking on a HOT day I get a light pulsating feedback in my pedal when the clutch pedal is to the floor.

At the dealership now for the same problems and they say there is nothing wrong with it. I guess I'll try the separate resevoir and also a tranny fluid exchange for RP. See if it makes any difference. Where were you able to find the 3/8" plug? Auto parts store, home depot???
Thanks for your help.

Any auto parts store will have it, One more thing I know as this is a new car we as customers don't think we are its right to have too change the brake/Clutch fluid in the reservoir, And i think the same way, But this is a high performances can and dos require some maintenance.
All i did was go to walmart Get some dot 4 brake/Clutch fluid . |
