Supercharger whine - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hey guys,
New to the site, rwd cars, and my '12 zl1. Seems like in videos posted that you can hear the supercharger whine in a stock zl1, all I can hear is engine and exhaust rumble. Should i be worried about this? I know that 12 and 13 had problems with the supercharger. Coming from a 06 Ion redline with a supercharger so I know what it sounds like btw lol. Thanks for any help.

When mine was stock I couldn't hear the whine either. The only time I could hear some whine was when I had the car in 3rd gear at about 2k Rpms and mashed the gas, the car did not take off that fast but I definitely heard the blower whine.

Throw some type of Cold Air Intake on it and you'll hear it then

Ok cool, I was looking at cold air kits and that seemed to be the best, I'm not sold on that clear box look of some of the other brands have. Thanks for the help, just making sure nothing was wrong before I started!

I installed Lingenfelter intake & the Sc sound was soo loud & nice , After doing straight piprs = boost dropped -> Sc sound cant be heared again (LOL) ... now installed 2.55 sc pulley but sc sound is still not that loud ... installing a lower pully soon .

I believe that Lingenfelter actually uses the RotoFab cai as their intake.

Get out of the car and lets someone else drive, you will have a smile on your face when the car goes by, CAI adds enough for you to hear inside..

I have the Cold Air Inductions CAI and the supercharger whine is now awesome!

I'm obviously in the minority (and getting old). I appreciate all GM did so that the supercharger whine is kept to a minimum and not noticeable on a stock car in the cabin. V8 rumble is the sound I want to hear...

I had an Cobalt SS/SC and i could barely hear the SC whine until I did the intake.

The ZL1 was the same way.

Now with the exhaust closed, 10" lower and the intake it basicly whines off idle...

Totally different pitch than the LSJ had though.

I must be going deaf in my old age. I just installed a Roto-fab intake and the whine is minimal at best. I did the fuse pull, so maybe that is countering it a bit. Either way, I love my Z. Frickin awesome car!!

Unfortunately our supercharger is quiet because of the CTS-V.
