65 GTO was a big car.
70 Charger was a big car.

I'm gonna stick with the Caprice for now, especially since the FBI Coronet 4 door was so limited... 2 cars?

have a friend that owned one a few years newer than the one OP has pictured, mid 80's that thing was a party wagon, get as drunk as you want and run that sucker in to anything, didn't matter. thing would not die....LOL heck you could have a picnic on the hood. get some good snow tires and you could get around in the city just as long as the streets were plowed adequately. thing was a tank and the weight helped big time. other than that is sucked LOL

Plenty of muscle cars handled well...for their day. The biggest issue for handling was 700+ lbs of engine in the front, and fading brakes. Car mags like Car and Driver praised the '70 Pontiac Trans Am for its handling.

Biggest muscle car? How about a '69 Mercury Marauder X-100

My mother had a 72 with the 429 4 barrel. It shifted into 3rd at 98 mph.. took FOREVER to stop that barge at over 100mph

I read a story in a car magazine along time ago about a guy that had one of these cars. He talked about all the street racing he did and all the victories he had. At the end he talked aboutone particular race as he was waiting for his next opponent to unload his Chevelle of the trailer he noticed his car was leaning towards one side. Apparently these cars had airbags in the rear to help with the launch. One side had a leak....he raced anyway and ended up taking the rear-end out of the car. Very interesting read. It might have been a Baldwin Motion 427 Biscayne.

65 GTO was not even the largest GTO. It was smaller than the 66-67 models. I could be wrong , but I believe the 64 and 65 were the smallest of the GTO line. My 72 curb weight was I believe 3433. I bet Chris Blair would have more info on this, as he is very knowlgeable about this era of cars.

Yeah ,there's always some varying wieghts listed in different places. I've seen the 71 listed at 3610, and the 70 RA. Judge as high as 3781. Maybe they had air conditioning and automatics. Seen the 64 listed at 3708. 72 455HO air 3516. I think visually the 66 and 67 were the longest. Did you ever pull yours along side other years? What do you remember personally about the length of the 66,67 Pontiacs?
