2010 RS Engine Control Module (ECM) failed
Pulling out of my garage the 2010 Camaro RS just died with no warning. Tried to restart and it wouldn't crank. Flatbed tow to Dealer who diagnosed the Engine Control Module (ECM) failed - $890. parts & labor. Almost a week to get the new ECM so the car isn't back yet.
I will be asking what would've happened if I was driving on the highway and the BCM failed - would I be able to steer the car to the side of the road? First real issue since I brought her home May 22, 2009. Updated - Camaro back with refurb ECM at $655.99 less $125 core return for net of $530.99 parts and $350 labor. Service Manager said that if the ECM failed at highway speeds the car would've stalled just like it did backing out of my garage - no power steering but I'd be able to manhandle it to the side of the road. He said they see 1-2 ECM failures a year across Chevy/Cadillac/GMC so the issue is "rare". I'll wait for the 2020s to be released before making a decision - I'd hate to see her go after great times these 10 years...
