Ditto, don't do it. Think of it this way: Pay off your present car and their will be a 2012 with 5000 miles on it in 2yrs and you will be that much ahead.
It is like buying "too much house", so much so that you can't afford to go out and have dinner and a movie or whatever so you are stuck in the house....you start hating the house real quick, and it doesn't help the relationship either. P.S., the pic you have of the Camaro is a 2SS, as the SS badge is red. A 1SS will be silver... |

It's very easy for people to spend other people's money. I am with the ones that say wait until you are not going to be upside down and 100% confident with your payments.

I'm so glad I read this thread this morning! I'm in the same (almost) predicament as you are...been looking at 2SS/RSs for a couple of months now and would love to get one. I really love my V6, so I don't HAVE to get rid of it, I've really personalized it and made it mine, but since I drove the SS, I do like it a lot. Can't seem to get the deal I want with two that I've driven and liked. Working on a deal with another one right now, but I'm not sure if I should do it right now. I'm not upside down, but I'm leaning toward just paying off my V6, then getting an SS; however, my mileage is climbing, only making mine worth less. I did find that when I took an SS home over a weekend awhile back, that it took A LOT more gas than my V6 which is a concern since I will be moving soon and my commute will be longer. Did find out tho, that my insurance would actually go down a bit.
So, I'm back to being on the fence like you...good luck with your decision. |

Sounds like you should wait. If your wife isn't 100% on board, it WILL come back to bite you. That's before even getting into the financial disaster you are creating for yourself. Like a previous poster, I was always upside down on my vehicles mostly because I refused to put any money down. Now when I buy I make sure that I won't be upside down the minute the ink dries. My payment isn't nearly as large as some of the payments people have mentioned here, but there is a moment every month as I click "submit payment" that I think to myself, dang, that would be a decent boat payment.

SS badge only changes color according to the RS package. If no RS package on the car it will be White. If it has the RS package it will be red regardless of 1SS or 2SS.

If you're on the fence then back away from the upgrade.

Also...are you willing to leave the SS 100% stock? Then tack on several more thousand $ for mods. Once you get that V8 the mod bug will bite. Is your insurance premium going to go up? Only you know your financial situation. If it's not going to burden your current life style, then go for it. Life is short! |

No. The red SS letters indicate the car has the RS Package. White (not silver) letters indicate non-RS package.
