82 pace car authenticity

Hi, I'm new to this site. I have a chance to get a 1982 pace car camaro from a friend of mine. Now I know it isnt a festival car, but one of the 6360 replicas that were sold to the public. I was wondering how I can authenticate it through the vin#. I hope you guys can help me and when/if I get the car pics will be posted.

rear brakes

yeah, I found out a bunch about the cars, and the rear disk brakes werent the only option on the pace cars, some had rear drums, some were hard top(this one is t-tops) and I know they were made in one run so I was just hoping that someone knew the range that the vin# should be in. The festival cars were in the 22-28 range, but I know it wasnt a festival car.

Thanks, I am a member there as well, and there seems to not be anyone on there since the begining of the year, great site, bit seems to be lacking in active members.

It looks like it's hard to tell from the vin only with this one. Was the pace car package an option? If so you may need the build sheet for the car to prove it.

thanks mlee, Ill pm him hope he responds. Motorhead, well There is a list of vin# that were for the 82 pace car "replicas" I just havent been able to find it, as far as the build sheet, I dont know yet the car is in baltimore md in storage, it has 7500 miles on it and has the original stickers in the trunk , from what I have been told. Still has the original eagles on it.lol If it is a true 82 could be worth something in the future, but I always loved the 3rd generation camaros and owing one wold be better then anything it is worth.Just might have to get it anyway.lol

If you have the window sticker and it matches the vin on the car then it should be real easy to see if it's real or not. The window sticker is as good as the build sheet in this case.

Motorhead, sorry for that its not the window sticker, just the indy stickers that the car came with, he never had the dealership put them on(it cost money back then). Thats why I was trying through the vin # , because the car is 1200 miles away, and I cant get him to go to the car and look for anything but the vin# that he got off of the title.

Thanks mlee. As soon as I get possession of the car I will post pics. I know it needs some resto, like paint and the drivers side seat has been ripped by a careless mechanic that was working on the car, but everything else is there including the red striped wheels and the original stickers(indy) in the trunk never applied. The owner said it runs and actually had it out last week had a tune up done and it passed MD smog emission. which is pretty cool considering the cars age.
