The only problem is that he will probably have a few mods under his hood by then.

our neighbor here in San Marcos is a die hard Ford guy... he recently bought a 2006 Stang... he was all talking about how great it feels and the 5spd auto and blah, blah, blah... I brought the SS home the other day for a couple days of driving to keep the battery charged... as Naomi and I were leaving, he was leaving with his wife in the Stang... I pulled up next to him and said, "hey, when you want to race that auto car of yours against our auto car?"... to which he replied, "not until I get my blower" dontcha just love a Mustang owner who knows his position in the world?

The GT500 and newest GT500KR designs are great looking Mustangs to me. The current gen base is th one that looks bland to me which is why I never bought one. You have to admit the picture above is one baddass looking car...

As for my take on the Camaro, I think the Bumblebee that I saw in the auto-show trumps the new Mustang in looks every day of the week. It is going to take a spectacular re-designed Mustang to even come close in my opinion...

Isnt that exactly what Mustang owners are doing about the Camaro? Haven't they always underestimated it? look at all the company's they have to get in their pocket to make the Mustang fast.Roush, saleen, shelby, Stock for stock for the most part the Camaro comes out on top. In looks and performance.

No, I think most REAL Mustang enthusiasts understand the true capabilities of the car in comparison to the Camaro. Hell, most of us Mustang GT owners know that a 4th gen LS1 F-body is generally faster than a new Mustang GT given equal drivers and stock vs stock. I will also offer that stock vs. stock comparisons are usually only for people that don't race seriously. Nothing wrong with that, I've just been to the track enough times to realize factory stock cars are a minority.

IMHO, I think for most of us logical Mustang enthusiasts, we look at the new camaro as a chance and opportunity for Ford to finally step up to the plate with it next iteration of the Mustang. As in "competition improves the breed."
There isn't any ignoring it per se. It is just still quite awhile before we really start seeing Camaros in force on the roads, drag strips, and auto X courses. Building on that, Mustang fans are really just looking to see how Ford responds to the Camaro. Right now everyone is comparing 2005 model year car to a 2010 model year car. Which isn't completely fair in my opinion.

For the Mustang enthusiast there is a lot more to it than raw performance numbers. Similar to the Camaro. It becomes a matter of perference that was influenced by a number of factors.

As for the true hod rodding community....we don't always care about stock numbers except maybe to establish a baseline. Everyone pays to play. If you spend any time at the track, you know that most cars, no matter what they are, don't stay stock for very long.

Finally, I'll be buying a Camaro in 2010.

I don't like hearing the stock for stock argument. A lot of drivers like to have the underdog car and modify it to match something unexpected. While Ford Mustang drivers aren't unexpected, they will try to compete with the Camaro using the resources they have available. A lot of us on this site appear to favor GMPP for performance parts. That may give some Mustang drivers a chance to catch up at the track, since many of them will be out of warranty and seeking high-performance enhancements, including forced induction. It might not be a level playing field for those of us who don't want to risk blowing our new motors, but it is fair play on the track, and the proper changes to a 2005 Mustang GT will give it the horses necessary to match a Camaro.

Don't be cocky unless you know you can back it up. This new Camaro is incredible out of the factory. Dollar for dollar, it will beat a Mustang GT as they are today, but don't expect the Mustang that sees you at the track to be stock. If you want to win, you've got to take what Rock36 said into consideration.

I am new to this forum but have been lurking for a while. Hello All!

I frequent all of the major Mustang Forums and I'd have to say we are impressed! I personally am so impressed that I am going to order one! I currently own a 2007 GT500 and a 2007 Mustang GT, and have been a die hard Mustang guy for years, but this new Camaro has really got my attention.

Who said the GT500 looks bad? lol

I love mine, but I do think that the new Camaro will really put a hurtin on the Mustang GT sales.

Here are my current toys
