MyLink radio swap for Pioneer.

I hate to do a new post but I’ve been searching (internet as well) and I even made a post but still can’t seem to find an answer.

I’ve got a 2013 and I want to swap the MyLink radio with a Pioneer unit.

All the write ups indicate that I have to swap out the whole bezel, but I’m not willing to do this. I would like to keep the existing bezel, but just swap radio - I’m not concerned about button functionality on the bezel. I’d then use a PAC audio harness to retain SWC. Is this not a viable option?

Wow - I’ve seen videos on the removal - the radio seems like a standard ddin radio - nothing special. But if that’s the case, I’ll stick with what I got. No need to spend 400+radio, just so I can get CarPlay.

I gotta tell you, I got the RadioPak5 kit for $300, a Pioneer radio with CarPlay from BB for $300 and I’m loving it. The CarPlay was what really made it worth it.

Good point - so I’ve seen that it’s a separate unit (the screen), but still felt that I could rig a DDin to fit. I mean considering that CarPlay requires you to connect via a lightening cord, for the amount of $$$ the PAC headunit costs, plus the radio, I’d be better off buying an iPad mini and just suction cup it to the existing screen!

Put a magnetic mount on your leftmost AC vent and put your phone on it. Run a microusb cable through the vent and any time you set your phone on the mount you can easily connect the cable to it. Shouldn't be an issue.

Really, it all stems from a recent car rental that had CarPlay. I was so impressed with the product, I thought I could easily implement into my Camaro. My other vehicle has an aftermarket radio, and uses a PAC audio harness to retain the steering wheel controls. I figured I could do the same with my 2013 Camaro.

Here's another reason why I did the RadioPak5 aftermarket route. It seems like everyday the aftermarket manufacturers are coming out with new stuff that I really like, like CarPlay which is awesome. One manufacturer now has Bluetooth CarPlay where you don't have to connect the lightning cable. I bet Pioneer is going to copy them so as soon as they do and the price comes down, all I have to do is replace the old aftermarket unit with a new one which should be plug and play since the connections are usually the same, and hopefully sell the old unit.

I'm doing the new PAK bezel with a Pioneer AVH-X490BS deck. It's all in boxes in my living room now, but I'm stoked to get to installing tomorrow. That new bezel seems so much better than the old Schoche and whatever the other was. Yes it's a bit pricey, but I think it'll be beyond worth it when it's done. Since I'm replacing all the factory speaks and adding aftermarket amp, subs, sub amp, I'm a little nervous about tearing the car all apart though. Anyway man, good luck with whatever you decide. It seems like that newer PAK bezel is a better answer than the old ones. At least IMHO.

EDIT: Is Android Auto anything close to as good Carplay? I have it on my phone, just no radio to connect it to yet.

This could be done but it would require a lot of hacking up.

Radio ( whatever you choose ) you'd have to hack up remove its screen and redirect each of its buttons to the matching buttons on mylink faceplate. Then get a ribbon cable to link the mylink screen as your radio screen.

Then hack up a pac audio kit to fit in the mylink bezel
