Adams Clear polish

I put some clear polish on my stripes today with Adams clear polish, I don't know what I did wrong but now my stripes are all blotchy and the look like sh*t. I used a 4" black pad to put it on. Made sure I had nice even coverage(at least I thought). The spots were the polish is looks great, don't get me wrong, but the stripes as a whole look horrible now. I left the polish on for bout 5 min. So now I have to take it off and reapply. Any tips on how to do it right the next time?

After washing/drying, I use some Adams detail spray on the stripes and it makes them nice and black.

I don't know about the clear, but I use Americana on my stripes, with no problems.
