My Open Letter to GM
To GM,
I am not a heritage loyal, died in the wool GM person. For years I have been the first one in a conversation to renounce all things domestic for something from across the pond. I would argue till I was blue in the face that imports were "a much better car". Granted I did own 3 or 4 domestic cars in my 15 years of automotive ownership but I never had a connection to those vehicles. A perfect example is the fact that I am a VW dealership employee, I have been a factory certified tech, and am now an expert certified parts specialist both for VolksWagen. I have always enjoyed tuning and modifying my vehicles and most of them were of the VW or Japanese 4 cylinder variety. At that time in my life in my mind GM was crap. My wife asked me to go to Dimmit Chevrolet to see a black Camaro 1LT, I did not want to go but I also did not want to sleep on the couch. The bedroom won and I went. I went over that car with a fine toothed comb trying to find defects or imperfections that I expected to find in "my expected GM car". I did not find anything. What I found was a well refined, well built and definitely well engineered vehicle. I was impressed. I was beyond impressed, I was sold. We went home and discussed potential model level and options. This was on May 3rd 2009. On May 5th we came back to Kyle at Dimmit and ordered our future 2SS/RS ABM LS3 Camaro. I was soon to be a chevy owner. Since that time we have found Camaro5 chevy mall, and hopefully a few potential friends in this online community. Before the Camaro arrived we have bought the big RC car, my wife got a hat and a Camaro Mouse, 2 Camaro books, and my dealer gave me the big Transformers banner that was hanging in the showroom. Oh and in the Camaro book I found out how influential and amazing people like Scott Settlemire are. Our car was born July 13th (a year to the day we moved to Florida from Philadelphia) Yesterday August 5th we were able to remove the rest of the "amneotic fluid" (tape and stickers) and fully visualize what we had done. (As I type this I actually feel somewhat short of breath I'm still that excited.) We were 2 proud parents of a gorgeous fully grown monster of a car and we couldnt be prouder. We are now considering that when our VW lease is up to purchase an SS HHR to replace the GTi in the garage. I no longer renounce GM or any Domestic MFG for that matter. I hope to have the honor of some day becoming a "heritage loyal, died in the wool GM loyalist" until then Thank you GM, and thank you everyone in Oshawa for building such and awesome car. The Happy Parents (rest of the pics will be in the gallery section)

Very cool. I have always been a diehard GM guy, but it's nice to see GM win over the foreign buyer. For too long GM has been losing market share, its time to win them back

Congratulations! Your testimony exemplifies exactly what GM needs to continue to do as they move forward with design - great timeless styling, quality, and an uncompromising effort to make owning and driving a GM car EXCITING again. I know ONE revived muscle car is not going to do it alone, but I think it harks back to a time 40 years ago when driving was exciting and each year everyone was anxious to see what next year would bring. We can only hope that the powers to be look to the past and recall what made them GREAT.

Great letter! I'm in the same boat; have not had a positive image of GM, but willing to give them a try because of the camaro. Have a 2LT ABM on order.
