No Power Steering
So, here in FL its been raining the entire week and my car has been the lucky one that gets to sit outside in it.
Anyway, I was in my 1LE getting ready to leave my house (yeah its still raining) and I turned the key to the ACC position and my info center said "service power steering". I thought nothing of it, just a huh that's odd. I took the key out and then put it back in and turned it to the ACC position again. The same message came up. So I turned the car on to see if it would go away. It didn't. I tried turning the wheel when it was sitting and it was like the wheel was locked. So....no power steering......how grand. moved the car a little bit and fought the wheel, ended up turning it just to see if it would magically turn on....it didn't. I ended up parking the car. About 10 minutes ago I was going to take a pic of the info center just to post it on this thread but nothing came up. I again thought....how odd.... so I drove the car around the neighborhood with no problems at all. Power steering was working fine. I'm thinking just a freak incident. Any idea of what happened or if the rain might have caused this? Thought id share.

I had intermittent failures, then BAM! Complete Failure.
Here is a thread about EPS Failures: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225187 My EPS Unit was replaced under warranty; the new ones are sealed and you can't put Electric Power Fluid in yourself. It may not be locked up, but it is really hard to steer unless you are moving. I drove my to the dealer; it was a real workout. |

The 2013s have electronic power steering or EPS which is the acronym used by the industry. I was involved on that side of the auto industry (EPS motors) for too long.... EDIT: The only good news is that even if the EPS motor/system completely fails is is only the assist that fails and not a complete loss of steering It just takes more muscle to maneuver the car at lower speeds... -Matt

I know it wasnt locked up it just felt that way because the car wasn't moving at all.
The car has 525 miles on it as of now and went through Q/C so id be pretty pissed if something actually went wrong in which it had to be taken back to the dealer this soon. I'm hoping this was a complete freak incident that will never happen again.

Keep a close eye on it as in my experience things don't just work, not work and then work again without an underlying issue. -Matt
