Heads Up To New York Drivers

State police have installed speed cameras and plate readers on Ocean parkway.

They're by Gilgo Beach, Cedar Beach, and Robert Moses Causeway.
Fines based on speed over 55mph. Minimum fine $175 plus fees.
This started on January 1st. Violations are mailed to the registered owner.

Be careful out there.

Let the lawsuits begin. I really hope that kind of thing is outlawed. Land of the not so free anymore.

in the uk camera's are almost everywhere now..even if you jump a red light.then you'll be getting a fine plus 3 points on your liscence..once you hit 12 points it's goodbye liscence for up to a year.

Unbelievable!! Also- take note, They give driver license's to undocumented ( illegals) in NY now. Another burden on the NY tax payers. I do not see this playing out to well since the basic NY driver carries the bare minimum insurance coverage's typically. So one can only guess these folks will most likely have zero insurance to boot. The real question is who is paying for them to obtain their vehicle costs, registrations and inspection fees? My guess the NY tax payers. I am all for anyone entering through the boarder legally (documented) but this undocumented crap giving is off the rails in NY and CA. There was 2 incidents since NY started this crap that undocumented persons killed another NY'er that was involved due to auto accident and there were zero charges to these undocumented. The new NY bail reform crap is a whole entire new bunch of crap as well. All pretty scary stuff to say the least.

There are places in the US that have red light cameras already.
Luckily I live out in the woods and I highly doubt any of that will ever be out here. But it is an easy lazy way to nail people and make money I just don't think it's right. How can you prove the camera was reading the exact MPH on that day at that time without human witness. What if there was a software anomaly, what if there was some weird reflection that skewed the readings. I think it's BS

i once put a wheel in a bus lane in london and 1 week later a 100 usd fine in the post...
london has to be one of the worst places in the world to own a car.
cars like our camaros u have to pay circa 50 usd a DAY to drive in the center .then about 10 usd an hour parking. and around 8 usd a gallon of petrol..raod tax on a special car will also set you back about 600 usd a year.
it's becoming a rich man only sport in the uk

This should be illegal. Sad that there are some states that think this kind of behavior is ok. Some day the citizens here may actually get fed up and stop going along with shit like this. Sucks

Resolution. Get the whole community to remove the plates from all their cars. Rebel! They can only pull over so many people. Maybe they will then rethink it. On a side note NY is a terrible place to get a ticket. I was visiting and got a ticket for no front license plate and the fine was $60, well they also add a arbitrary surcharge amount to tickets so the ticket then went up to $180. I paid it, this time. I won't do it again.

Those city parking police have the authority to write no front plate tickets in states that have the front plate law.

Thatís got to be one of the craziest things Iíve heard in my life. Iím so glad I got away from the east coast 6 years ago. My motherland of Virginia sure has gone to hell along with most of the rest of it. Thereís still some hope down south but man some of these politicians are nuts. I sure miss the Blue Ridge though.

You can buy licence plate covers that block picture taking.

Oddly enough, I think most cameras have been removed here in N CA. But not before I got a $400+ ticket mailed to me replete with stills and video of me not coming to a complete stop before turning right on red. 4th Am violation?
